I'm looking for a processor upgrade for this. This is my current PC I'm looking for a new one. As I'm looking for a new PC, this will be more like a backup/entertainment system for family. Also will be dual-booting Win7 & Ubuntu 64bit LAMP server.

Current config is
Athlon II X2 250
SMPS (not naming u will shoot me :) )
Asus M2A74-AM
Corsair Value 2x2GB
Seagate 1 TB HDD (7200rpm)
Sony DVD Writer
Acer 15" LCD (1366x768)
Asus ENGT 520 SILENT
(test ran CoD: Black Ops for couple of hours never hanged with Win7 32bit )
Resolution was 1366x768 dont remember gfx settings.

These are the items that run of my USB ports
Canon LBP 2900 Printer
Canon LiDE 100 Scanner *
Belkin WiFi Dongle *
Seagate FreeAgent Go 250GB *
* powered of USB port

My questions are do I really need to upgrade CPU to run GT520. I mean does Athlon II x2 250 create bottleneck for GPU?
Also the local SMPS seems to be fine running all those but I'm doubtful.

Thanks
Raam

no need to buy a cpu for GT520 - Athlon II X2 250 is more than enough to run your gpu - for PSU look for either FSP Saga II 500 or Corsair Cx430v2 - both should be around ~2.3k ;-)

No. You donot necessarily need to upgrade processor. If you have budget or are not satisfied with your current processors performance you are free to upgrade :)
For psu get Fsp Saga II 500w@2k.

For GT 520 Do not worry. Thats a VERY low end card and X2 can handle it more than enough. I would say atleast till HD 6670 your proccy wont bottleneck anything.

buy a capable PSU so that in future if you want to upgrade, your upgrade path is clear. and also your rig will be safe.

Thank You all

Will be getting a saga or cx430 just to be safe.

@all this is more like standby machine, more for movies, music & backup. I'm looking for a totally new rig. Jaskanwar has given a nice config *www.thinkdigit.com/forum/pc-components-configurations/147445-new-pc-45k-i5-560ti-amd-560ti.html
