Problem with RAM Upgradation for my old PC

My old PC has the following configuration:

Intel 845gvsr mobo
Intel PIV
80 gb pata hdd
512 mb ddr hynix Ram
LG CD/DVD Writer.

It has been installed with win 98se in c: partition and win xp sp2 in d: partition. In total four partition are there : C,D,E,F.

As 512mb is not sufficient in running photoshop like applications, I am trying to upgrade the RAM to 1 gb.

Initially, I bought zion 1 gb DDR 400 RAM. Win XP ran smothly. But, running win98 was having problems. I got prompt "not intel hardware".

Today, I bought 1gb ddr1 333 PC RAM of starlite. After 2 hrs of struggle it was found though win xp was running with problem, booting win98se was giving dark screen.

I am quite confused. I want to upgrade RAM but my two operating systems are not behaving as required.

I need experts advice to troubleshoot.

Don't tell me to throw it away. I need it to program in some older compilers. So, I cannot reject it.

Kindly provide me with well thought advice....

Hope for help:)

98 has problems with more than 512gb of ram. u should do google research before those upgrades.

anyways u may check this for some workarounds, but they may not work.
