The backplate is a protector case I purchased. It's made of rubber and the holes are to prevent the buildup of moisture inside casing, which happens when there's a lot of humidity and you travel between hot outdoors and AC indoors.

nice proiduct overrides other channels, in around 30-70 feet range not yet checked the range in full open space but in closed space / office reaches to 40 feet,, best thing is runs on 2 AAA batteries, unlike the other FM transmitters which hav car socket attached,
