Yup, with an M2N MXSE onboard gfx, he can have a Sm 3.0 gfx nd features which is worth the price of 2.5k. It is decent enuf if not into gaming. And u can get nvidia driver supports in linux too as they have unified drivers.

hmmmm....you guys have confused me:twisted:
i was going to buy it today itself, but i guess i will wait for few more days:rolleyes:, i will evaluate both the situations and decide accordingly .

ok first guide me, now i have two options:-

1) Add a display card+PSU= total cost 3.5k
simple & but obsolete hardware, can be still used for p2p,web browsing, emailing etc etc

2) Replace CPU+MOBO+RAM+PSU(as I only have a 300w psu)
my PC runs daily about 15hrs, so power is concern, ATM my cpu runs at 50% power almost 90% time, yeah but sometimes i also runs cpu intensive tasks like encoding & decoding, Visualization, compiling source code etc etc, as i also need a good power too
the main questions are
  • what performance gain do i get?
  • how much money do i have to spend?

Present config
AMD athlon 64 3000+(754pin)
MSI-K8mm-v
1 GB DDR 400MHZ RAM
80+320+80+80 gb HDD

Yes good idea if you dont want to future proof your system. Although it satisfies your initial requirements, it becomes to what as I call "Dead Money" how long do you intend to keep your agp setup? What happens when AGP goes kaput and availability becomes worse?

Depends on the processor you are buying I had the same setup I believe I have told you on IRC before. You can keep the disks and other stuff. The Asus M2N MX SE can let yopu even play FEAR at playable rates at low settings. You get a Pci Ex slot. Your system is much more upto date I would say and is a bit more future proof. Not to mention that would allow you to burn your previous board which uses VIA :D . Just kidding sell it for additional money of course. The performance increase is noticeable. However when you are dealing with Day to day tasks like browsing , writing a document or just listening to a song I doubt you will notice it.

This config has gud vfm + decent performance + a power saver+ runs cool.
X2 4000+: 2.5k
M2N MX: 2.5k
1G DDR2: 0.9k
PSU: 0.4k
----------------------
6.4k
U can also go for Sempron 3200+ for 1.1k
2days Sempron 3200+ delivers more power than ur current 3000+, but not much difference. I prefer a dual core.

Also u can get at least 2~3 k by selling ur current config.[give away one 80Gb with it]

+1 ^ But I prefer the X2 Processor rather than Sempron. Then you can install AMD 64 distro on your CPU (Insert maniacal laugh here, then you could send me all the packages you download and I wouldnt have to kill my download quote over it :D)

128 is enough for 6200, coz usually 128Mb ones has higher clocked memory.
Nyway what u shud look for is cards with fan. XFX 6200 dun have fans. Get one with fans. Itll run cooler nd has longer span even if oced.

@exx_2000
im from KTM

Holy $#@$3 where in Kottayam. Im from Mallappally to be exact. I usually come by Kottayam to my friends house to get some stuff I need on my computer (Use the appropriate translation where necessary). Where do you get your H/W stuff from Kottayam. I havent found any good stores anywhere near me other than Cochin. Rashi wont deal to end users either. I have to get someone to get the stuff from Rashi instead.

really?
is 2200 a good quote?
on deltapage.com
AGP 8x 6200 128 MB 1540/-
AGP 8x 6200 256 MB 1980 /-

@gary4gar
But no dealers ive seen have quoted less that 2k. U can ask for some 200 bucks discount.
And i think in deltapage, its without 4% vat.
So 1980+80=2060/-
So 2200/- is a fair deal if not best.

well i asked many of them,

1) most say 2450/-
2) only one dealer said 2200/-, but he was out of stock, so he said me to wait

buying AGP is really difficult:(, i wasted so much time searching
