PC upgrade - 20 k budget (may be stretched slightly)

info4rage

Right off the assembly line
1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: - Downloading (extensively). Machine will be on for days
- Viewing HDrip movies (my old pc had issues playing .mkv files)
- A little bit of gaming (still play AOE), no plans to play any new generation computers
- use as a media centre and connect to xbox and my TV

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 20 k. can extend by 2-3 k.

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: XP or windows 7

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: Reuse old hard disk

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: No, 22-inch diagonal size, with max resolution of 1680x1050

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: - Monitor
- Hard disk; have 250 GB hard disk (WD caviar blue - WD2500AJS)
- DVDdrive
- CD drive
- keyboard + mouse
- speakers

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: 7th April

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: assembler

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans:Nehru place. can buy online if needed

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:
- I want good quality reliable components and a good power supply. I have had issues with the heating and the fans over the cpu stopping before
- Also it would be good to have current generation components with new features like HDMI ports

For your kind of job I would say stick with APU as suggested by rajat low TDP(100 watts) as your pc will used for downloading and watching movies and this can handle games too at medium to low settings.
AMD has better quality in video than both intel and nvidia.
you are getting a Quad core CPU+good IGP for 6,000

Intel G620 | 3233
ASUS P8H61-M LX | 3180
Corsair DDR3 4 GB | 1187
HIS HD6450 | 2537
Cooler Master Elite 310 | 1826
Corsair CX430W | 2563

TOTAL: 14,526.

add a 1Tb HDD with the rest. you don't need a performance breaking PC for downloading. also this config is sufficient for most task except gaming. HD6450 is faster than GT520.
