Hi guys, i had a MSI 8800GT OC Edition, which i bough in May 2008. It died last month and i gave it for warranty/repair. The distri guys, after fiddling around with it for nearly a month are saying that the old card cannot be repaired, instead a new replacement will be offered.

He is offereing me EVGA 9800GT in for my present card and Rs.1000 more...

So my question is: is this a fair deal?? What other future-proof cards can i get, by paying around 2-3k extra?? (i have nforce 750i mobo)

Why pay extra? I mean a warranty is supposed to be a warranty. If you don't have a product or it's declared as EOL then it should be replaced with an equivalent or better.

Yes, the dealer is trying to pull a fast one. Tell him to replace it under warranty or give you something better.

oh wow...Xenforo!!!
According to many warranty terms, if its a product defect and its under warranty- it will be replaced. Some distri give credit as well but you get that only if they dont have the replacement. Make sure you have the bill with you.

thanks for the reply guys...i'll bargain hard

actually....8800gt oc is no longer stocked....
thats why he is offering a different card....

btw - after a bit of researching, i found that....
9800gt < 8800gt oc < 9800gt oc

so actually, the replacement i'll get is worse than the original card!!!

actually .... 9800 GT = 8800 GT ... there is only 200 Mhz difference in memory clocks ... rest all is same... and if that model is no longer available ... then u should get the next higher model for free.... i once sent my Seagate 360 GB HDD fro RMA which was out of production, so they gave me next higher model i.e. 400 GB without any extra cost. The dealer is trying to make a quick buck, thats it...dont let him rob u in broad daylight.

^^he was ready to give me palit 9800gt oc for free, finally settled on evga 9800gt sc for 1000 bucks... well maybe a bad deal, but i just want my card back!!!

chose watever u like .. but dont pay him any extra buck .... and rem though performance wise 9800 Gt is a bit ( 2-5%) better than 8800 GT, still Price of 8800 GT is higher than the 9800 GT ... so dnt pay any money to the dealer.
