Note II still has two advantages over Xperia Z, the SPen(its useful) and the screen itself, also the multi window feature, if you want a phone/phablet for business woks, reading ebooks, drawing Note II for sure, if you love playing games, taking snapshots and show off, then its Z(Z looks sexy :p)

Xperia Z :).... But why why So huge phones?
WE need huge pockets first and a sensor that beeps loudly when anyone else touches the phone..these phones might get robben easily due to their size??

I carry the L9 only when I wear a formal/jeans etc, I can't carry it when wearing tracksuites, too big, but the screen is worth it, once you get to use a high ppi large screen you can never go back, I was skeptical at first, but after a few days use of L9 I will take a 5" screen anyday, but over 5" is a bit too big, I can't hold it in one hand let alone one hand use.

It doesnt. And no Manufacturer bothers to give updates to budget phones. But since the Note 2 and Z are flagships , you need not bother.

I have a brainwave :
why not wait for the next Nexus phone ?

guaranteed Software updates , powerful hardware and a possibly cheap price tag = winner.

When you are putting that much money, it is better to buy something that looks the part. The specs and design look good (specs by Sony standards are 2014) :p

Xperia Z and Note II are two different gadgets. I would like to suggest OP to take demo of both these devices and then decide.
Note II has many other advantages like S-pen, probability of getting android OTA update earlier than sony's flagship phones and a HUGE battery that lasts forever (literally). On the other hand Xperia Z is good for who do job near water bodies, soil and durt as it is incredibly water and dust proof.

Camera of xperia z is not impressive even it has new Exmos RS lens. The pictures are dull and dry even in sunlight where it is is supposed to be perform best. Screen of Xperia Z is really great and detailed but still same old technology, hence poor viewing angles compared to other phones of its range. Source: FoneArena

I wish sony work little more hard to make better camera and voice quality. HTC and Samsung are ready to show their trump cards. OP should wait for a month or so.

Well I don't know what lover you are but I had seen the cam reviews of Xperia Z and the only camera that can beat it are from Nokia's stable, not samsung, the only reason you suggested Xperia Z is because its dust proof and water proof, if that's ain't a fail, I don't know what is.

I think at that price point the choice is easy, just look at which looks more trendy and feels easy in hands & also has better UI customizations to make it more user friendly :)

Also a minimal check, just to make sure there is no major con with the device.

If we go with the specs then mite as well wait for one of these,
LG Optimus G Pro | Huawei Ascend D2 | Galaxy S4 | Galaxy Note 3
