I have an Altec Lansing 2.1 speaker with onboard Realtek AC97 audio...

A month back my speakers stooped working and I had to send it for repairs under warranty...

After it came back my right speaker gave me a bit of problems... On further inspection In realized that there was sound output but it was very faint... On checking with the AvRack cpl, I confirmed no sound from right speaker but output from the left speaker runs through faintly through the right one as well...

I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers and also checked the Sound devices cpl... I checked to see whether thee could be a problem with the onboard sound by using my headset but i found both channels clear...

As a last resort I checked my Altec Lansing speakers on someone else's PC and they worked just fine!!! But they just refuse to work properly on my PC

Please help me!!!

Added:

I also checked my speakers on the front panel on my PC and the left speaker/channel stopped responding...

I again attached the speakers behind my PC and attched my headset to the front panel... Only the right channel worked on my headset and soon as lowered the volume on my headset the speakers right channel started responding...

I also brought in a friends 2 setup speakers... Both speakers work on only one channel at a time either on the front panel or back panel...

What's wrong???

My motherboard is a GA-8I915ME-C with Integrated high quality 6-channel AC'97 audio.

Is the onboard sound faulty...

I have heard that if you attach the Line Out jack while the PC is powered on you can damage the onboard sound... Is this true??? Is this what is wrong with my PC???

open up your PC and disable one of the channel either front or back by removing the corresponding cable. Check whether the enabled channel works. If so might be your sound card does not support more than one channels. Because I have the same card and it doesnt support more than one channels.
