nope it doesnt!
In that case, 3870 should be the good choice. However, the card is priced higher than a 8800GT.
As for DX10.1 compatible Nvidia cards like 9800GTX, u'll to spend alot more. In that case, 3870 should be the choice.
Btw, u should think for urself regarding the tasks priority.
Whether u are going to run that much games with DX10.1 settings or not? Even DX10 GPUs can run DX10.1 games, however not with specific DX10.1 settings. On the other hand, all DX10.1 will fully support DX10 cards. Hence, if running DX10.1 games with DX10.1 specific settings is ur priority, go for HD 3870 card. Else, 8800GT all the way!

Gecube HD 3850 512 OC beats stock HD 3870 nd is sweetly priced at 11k. U also get an HDMI adapter bundled with it. It has a custor cooler nd runs too cool also.

nope. But with 55nm GPU, u can oc it really well if u get a dual slot cooler model.

If u want sheer speed, get 8800GT.
HD 3850<9600GT<HD 3870<8800GT<8800GTS<8800GT SLI<HD 3870 X2<9600Gt SLI.

it ll be correct in most cases, but there cud be exception in some games or benchs. That 9600GT cud beat 3870 in some cases. But 3870 deserves better place due to its features like DX10.1 and lower power consumption.

BTW it was just to give a fair idea. No offense dude.

So far nVidia doesn't have any graphics card which supports DX10.1.
ITs only ATi which has DX10.1 cards available in the market.

This statement is absolutely correct. Although exceptions are everywhere but this is what i call a clear picture.

I went to the market to get the price of the components i am interested in buying and here are the prices i got...

Q6600...................Rs 10000
Abit IX38 Quad GT.........Rs 10700
Asus Maximus Formula....Rs 15800
Corsair 2X2GB XMS2 800MHz......Rs 6800
CM 330..................................Rs 2700
Corsair HX620 PSU...................Rs 6700
ATI 3870X2............................Rs 22500
MSI 8800GTS..........................Rs 18500

The only place i want to reduce the cost is graphic card as the overall budget is going out of my hands... the machine will be used for 3D work and gaming as well...

Do u think i can go for 8800GT 512MB or any other suggestions... please help..

Also do u think i can go for Asus Maximus instead of Abit IX38QuadGT

Its not worth spending 6k more for the Maximus Formula.Advantages that the Maximus offers over QuadGT are ones which i am sure you will never make use of. (Read : tremendous Bios options for overclocking)

The Gigabyte 8800GT with Zalman cooler which is not a reference design, comes with Samsung memory (instead of the shitty Qimonda aka Gaymonda) so memory clocking is also good.
Its cheap too and comes with 3 years warranty as usual,

There is a special offer going on for this card HERE
