but the Athlon II X2, X3 and X4 are all native, not an X4 with one or two cores disabled, so this core unlocking is limited to Phenom II X3's and hopefully not X2's(I want then to make native dual cores with lesser sale price).

And i think that for unlocking the cores we need a compatible motherboard chipset like AMD 790 G .. right?

Me going for AMD 720BE
Jetway HA 07 Ultra
4 GB DDR 2
Confused between GTX 260 and 4870 both have same performance but I do a lot of video encoding so the one that will encode quickly will be my choice

GTX 260 and 4870 have similar performance, but not similar price.
260 is 10K while 4870 is atleast 14K.

So I hope this helps you decide :p

actually cheapest GTX 260 is zotac which will be 10.6 with shipping from lynx and palit one will be 11.3 from itwares.

and HD 4870 512 is 11.7k and 1GB for 13k. 4870 dual sonic OC is 13.2k.
dual sonic oc shud be better than GTX 260 stock, and dual sonic has gr8 cooling and oc capability.

So that means I should go for GTX 260.. right??

And what about GTX 275 and 4890.. i'm also interested in those cards.. but suppose if I go for AMD's 7850 X2, i think that the processor will become a bottleneck..

HD4890 is nothing more than a tweaked HD4870. Leave alone GTX 260. Reason

Get 2x MSI HD 4770 @ Rs 14K & Run them in cross fire & get performance simillar to GTX 280 ( & sometime even better ) which costs Rs. 22K :p

So time for going into a pure AMD based rig :p

@topgear.. awesome suggestion dude.. and i forgot that the board that i'm going to get also has Crossfire support (Jetway HA 07 Ultra).. i hope that the two 4770's will also speed up my encoding process of videos..

GTX 260 Core 216 should be enough to game with 30-40fps atleast on most games with high settings @ 1920x1080.

And BTW, WHY 7850x2 ? Why a 95W power-holic dual core which is a black edition but can't even overclock like an old E2140 ?

Why not E5200 or similar ? Better yet, you can wait for E6300 2.0 :D

Wait for Athlon II X2 and Phenom II X2 to arrive then
You got no other choice till then bro.
Because if you go for AMD now, you will regret it later.
95W dual cores are so not cool.

And yeah, at 1080p gaming, CPU wouldn't be a bottleneck. A Core i7 960 would perform only slightly better, by 5-10 FPS in exteme case, compared to P7850BE.

GTX260 is more capable. In short, it can play EVERY game except CRYSIS and CRYSIS Warhead at FULL HD with no stutterring.

Not even that much, only maybe if u're using 2x GTX295 or 2x HD4870x2, only then would Core i7 be a help, but when the frame rate is above 60 already, how much sense does it make to add more cards to get it over a not at all needed 100!

Initially I was considering this configuration

AMD 720 BE
Jetway HA 07 Ultra
2*2 GB DDR2 800 MHz RAM
4870 or GTX 260
2*250 GB in RAID 0 (Already have one 250 GB HDD will add another and RAID em)

But this thread diverted my mind from the Phenom II 720 BE
