Need to download single file from youtube (or similar sites) in multiple seesions

windchimes

Can you hear it..??
Hi friends,

Wish to know whether there are any free softwares available to download videos from youtube WHICH also supports multiple sessions on a single download. ie: It should be capable of pausing and continuing as well as stopping and resuming. My problem is I was downloading a file which was almost 600MB and for the last few times it failed due to power failure as well as due to connection issues (and that too after spending hours on the file and after downloading almost 70 to 95 %). Any help on the same would be highly appreciated since I really want to download the file.

Cheers

Basically, the download resume facility needs to enabled at the server side. Try using IDM with one of the smaller downloads and test stop/resume facility. If it does, you can download the full file. Otherwise, you have to get the file at one shot.

It's pretty easy. You need a firefox extension to provide you the direct link to the video and a download manager. I use Free Download Manager as the download manager and 1-Click YouTube Video Downloader to get the direct link. (There are also some other similar extensions available here).

After you install these two things, go to the youtube video page and click on the direct link generated by the extension. See the image below:

Clicking on one of the above links will start the download. Stop the download, right click on the download and Copy download link.

Now go to Free Download Manager (or any download manager of your choice) and add a download by URL.

The download should begin with resume support now.

I am sorry? He never said anything what he is trying to download and that content might very well be available legally on bittorrent. Bittorrent is not piracy in itself. There is a lot of legal stuff shared through torrents which saves the hosters a lot of bandwidth. It's funny how downloading something through youtube is all right, but the same stuff through torrents becomes piracy.

Thanks Pushkar for the post. But majority of the links doesn't provide the flv/3gp/mp4/hd options and hence there aren't chances to get the direct link. The embed code doesn't help you with the direct link. I have just the normal youtube link and I cant download them since I'll be downloading a webpage and not a video. Secondly there is a grabber option. But I am not sure whether they allow sessions and again for the first time I'm using "Internet Download Manager" and the grabber options look a bit confusing since it just gives a pile of info and even after checking the only video option I couldn't find a link to the video. Please check the images and pardon my ignorance if any. Any new idea to get it done?

Uh, I am guessing you didn't install the Firefox extension 1-Click YouTube Video Downloader, which I linked in my previous post. The FLV/MP4 links are generated by the extension; they are not given by youtube. Install that extension and then try.

I have never seen any youtube page which doesn't give me those links (after installing the firefox extension).

Oops... Yeah Pushkar! I skipped that part. Thanks a ton buddy! By the way are you aware of any such methods with Opera?

Nope, I don't know of any automated way for Opera. In fact, Opera is my main browser, but I keep Firefox for this kind of stuff which needs addons, like Noscript, Youtube downloader, etc.
