Need suggestion for earphone ~$20-40 - Gift for a friend in US

I am looking for a pair of earphone to be gifted to my friend, who resides in Boston. I will be using Amazon or any other website that is suggested for buying the earphones.

He has previously used Sennheiser CX-180 and the stock apple earphones/earpods.

I would have bought a Brainwavz M1 in India as a natural upgrade path but since he resides in US, I think there is greater variety that can be chosen from. Hence would like your help.

Budget: ~ $20 - 40 (lower the better)

Klipsch S4 has got wildly varying reviews online. Some love them, others call them headache-inducing. Just FYI. Apparently they are a bit bright on the treble, something to consider...


BTW have a look at the E10 and E30 from soundmagic. What Hi-Fi swears by them.

If you can get it at the same price as R1, then why not? Buy it. But if priced higher, then S4 is overpriced.
