Need info on 5.1 speakers for my PC

I plan to buy a 5.1 speakers for my PC. I have Intel DG965RY motherboard. I heard from one of my friends that for 5.1 Speakers to work we need an additional sound card. We will not be able to get the surround effects with the inbuilt sound card. Is this true? Do I have to buy an additional sound card to get 5.1 Surround effect? There are some of my friends who don't have an additional sound card but still use 5.1 speakers attached to their PC. Please help!

Not more than Rs 3000. Can extend the budget a little bit.

Creative M5300 5.1 , but make sure u get the Creative sound blaster card
