I need a tablet primarily for gaming and watching videos/ movies along with browsing the internet. Gaming is the most important requirement. My budget is 25k. I am some what inclined towards the iPad Mini as it seems best suited for my needs. What are your thoughts? Please suggest. Thank you.

Nexus 7 is pretty awesome, something to compete with ipad, Nvida Tegra is the way to go, but i personally feel "tablet" is something undoubtedly useless while one has a smartphone and a laptop.

^Which tablet have you been using?

In my experience I have found the iPad(s) to be better for gaming, Android tabs to be excellent for movies/videos, the rest being the same for both.

Your choice depends a lot on what is more important for you

Why not Google Nexus 7 buddy?

I meant I was sorry that I posted in the wrong section.

This is the primary requirement. I did think about the Nexus 7 but after using the iPad Mini & the galaxy tab (I haven't used the Nexus yet), I found the iPad much better in terms of usability. Can't say about the Nexus 7.

I am already pretty much inclined towards the iPad Mini so I guess I might buy it soon. Now, the question is- The iPad is in it's 3rd generation. Does the iPad mini also have different generations? Is there a retina display on the iPad Mini ?

I have been using ipad mini for about 3 months. If hd movies is your first preference go and get ipad mini it is the best display you will see. Or if you can wait for some time wait as the new ipad mini is round the corner and is rumoured to be having a retina display.

For those who are saying ipad mini is suited for gaming, movies etc are forgetting a very simple fact, ipad mini has a pathetic screen(162PPI) vs the Nexus 7's (216PPI), so its the exact opposite, the only pro for ipad mini is its camera, and nothing else, it doesn't even have NFC, Gorilla glass etc: Apple iPad mini Wi-Fi vs. Asus Google Nexus 7 - GSMArena.com

ipad mini is a complete rip off, even Chinese tablets have better screens and features.

Hardware is not the issue, the ios OS optimizations make ipad mini equal with nexus 7.

If you want to play games, watch movies, read books, get Nexus 7.
If you want to take pics get the ipad mini.

And Nexus has better hardware and HD games at play store is more cheaper than Apple store.

:+1: Nexus devices are way better compared to iOs counterparts when it comes to optimization..
Why dont you consider Nexus 10? Google is planning to market its Nexus devices through Google Play in India soon.. Also new Nexus models are rumored to be released this May, including Nexus 7.7..

If you are in a hurry then get a Nexus 7.. Another downside of iPad mini is that it lacks GPS..
Nexus 7 has higher resolution which makes reading books more comfortable..(N7's screen may not be as vibrant as iPad's but thats no dealbreaker..)

Ipad mini's less pixel density did not affect me at all. I still think the its display is really good. I think u need to check it out in real time.
Plus its got a 7.9" display, which is just the right size and better than a 7" & 10". Thats the reason u see a sudden shift with major brands coming up with ~8" display sizes.

Get Ipad mini, if,
- you want a good product overall. (Reading books, browsing, videos, gaming but maybe not too hardcore maybe. Fifa 13, NFS work well on mine)
- you like the user experience of iOS.
- need a good primary cam for casual photography.

Get Nexus 7, if
- u care about the raw processing power
- you are disturbed by the fact that u've got fewer pixels on you(even though it doesn't affect the user experience).
- u dont need any sort of software customizations, and user friendliness not of much concern.
- need to save ~5k.

If u can wait for maybe 1-2 month, u may find the Nexus 7.7 or Galaxy Note 8.0 to be a perfect fit.

A. I already pointed it out ios optimization makes the nexus hardware irrelevant.
B. It does, its like this, you're used to play games at 20FPS, you won't find any issues, but for those of use who play at 60FPS it will be discomforting. A lower PPI screen will have terrible jagged edges on fonts when reading books, or watching movies, after 250PPI the metric starts to become irrelevant, and after 300PPI is doesn't matter any more.
C. Software customization? Android is the holy grail of software customization, you don't like the launcher? Change it, you don't like the homescreen? Swap it, you don't like firmware? Change it. Can you do these in iOS? And android OS is user friendly enough, specially JB.
D. Agreed.

B. I'm not too much of a gamer now, so you're most probably right on this.
C. By software customizations, I meant that out-of-box you may not find much with stock Android on Nexus 7. With Samsung, Sony etc you get something more on top of the usual Android experience in the form of TouchWiz, Timescape. But if you're good with installing custom launchers on ur own, then probably its the best thing out there for you. The only thing you should worry about would be the warranty, as I guess its not available in India yet.

Probably it will never come to India if rumours are to be believed.

I think so too, neither MS nor Google have any service centers here and setting up is a huge investment.
