How old is it? If it's still under warranty, take it to HP support center. could be a virus issue.

Information given by you.

1 yr old laptop which has 1GB RAM and is manufactured by HP. Period

How do you expect us to reply??

phew.... when asking a question try to give full details like Model number, Processor, and most importantly the Operating system. you have to tell if you did any virus scan on that or not. else you wont get information and we will simply be wasting asking simple questions.

I don't think he can do virusscan on a lappy that hangs in two minutes.

@Pritish, Have you tried booting into safe mode and doing a virusscan?

Well best cure is fresh installation of OS.But in that case you may loose some data. So, first try these tips.
1) Uninstall all unwanted softwares.
2) Keep only 1 antivirus and antispyware.
3) Perform check disk, disk cleanup, disk defragment of all drives.
4) remove unwanted programs from startup
start-->>run-->>type msconfig and press enter-->>startup-->>uncheck all unwanted programs like adobe reader, real player and others.
5) Use windows default theme.
6) Dont use any wallpaper.
7) Disable sound from startup, shutdown and others
start-->>control panel-->>sound and audio devies properties-->>sounds-->>select "no sound " in sound scheme.

And, must perform full system scan.
1) turn off system restore
2) Install a good antivirus, and two good antispyware.
3) Update antivirus, antispwares
4) boot in safe mode..and perfoem full system scan with antivirus and antispyware.
5) Do a full system online scan.
