1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')

Ans: Gaming and running and other applications. Applications like MS OFFICE 2010, ADOBE CS5 , playing 1080p videos. Games like black ops 2, hitman absolution, medal of honor warfighter.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.

Ans: 40 k is fixed.

3. Planning to overclock?

Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?

Ans: WIN 7 64 bit

5. How much hard drive space is needed?

Ans: 1 TB 7200 64

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.

Ans: No. I have a old CRT monitor with a resolution of 800 by 600.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?

Ans:Keyboard, mouse, monitor, speaker.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?

Ans: Within 25 december 2012

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?

Ans: No, it will be done by an assembler.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?

Ans: I stay in navi mumbai. I am buying it locally. If any part not available then i will opt for online purchase.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?

Ans: I am looking for intel i5 3rd gen, min 4 gb ram, good graphic memory with hdmi and cooling fan, cabin with good cooling fans and usb 3.0.

How does one identify the strength of a graphic card? Like if i want to purchase ram i will go for higher memory and speed eg 4 gb 1600 mhz. In the case of graphic card at what specs do i have to look for its performance. Is it necessary a motherboard as well as GPU to have HDMI out? Which out will be used to connect the monitor? Can i have cabin with 2 front usb 3.0 ports? If possible mention the alternatives or equivalent components while listing. Sometimes specific parts are not available at the shop so they offer other brands.

If i assemble the rig on my own how much will save on the total cost? Will it be anywhere between 10 to 30 percent of total cost? Is it advisable to try to assemble for a newbie?

Why So Serious ???
You say that you want to play 1080p videos.. but how will you run them on 800x600 resolution CRT ? Your CRT wont be sufficient for gaming. So would suggest to buy an LED display.

I do not want a monitor now as i have one. Can u reallocate monitor funds to graphic or psu? How do one know whether the components are compatible to each other? I plan to buy a 22 inch led next year. Due to restricted budget i m only focusing on the cpu. Another alternate to monitor is my 40 inch led tv which i can connect to pc via hdmi.

Then here you go buddy...and sorry that I forgot abt PSU in my first post. You can definitely get this in 40k. Plan a day trip to Lamington road from Navi Mumbai and buy these from there. You'll get good deals.

The above configuration is very good. Just one to suggest one change: Get a WD HDD instead of Seagate as seagate offers only 1 Yrs of warranty with its 500 GB and 1 TB HDDs whereas WD offers 2 Yrs. OP can even opt for the WD Caviar Green 1TB SATA III 6 Gbps HDD with 64 MB Cache. Although it has slower RPM value compared to the Seagate HDD, it can still manage to provide comparable performance due to its higher Cache size (64 MB compared to 32 MB of Seagate).

I googled all the config given by everyone on this post but i could not find a cabin supporting usb 3.0.

I looked into this months digit magazine "killer rigs" section, i found the mid-range gaming rig comes under or equal to 40k.

The config are as follows:

INTEL I5 3450 - 11.5K
INTEL DB75EN - 5.6K
CORSAIR VENGEANCE 4GB - 1450
SEAGATE 500 GB 7200 - 3650
ASUS GTX 650 TI - 11250
COOLER MASTER ELITE 310 - 1.6K
CORSAIR GS600 - 4K
SAMSUNG 22X SATA DVD WRITER - 950

TOTAL COMES TO EXACTLY 40K.

I am not satisfied with the config as the intel motherboard offers two 3.0 usb at the back side and the cabinet does not support usb 3.0 at all. When i go to the market the total price may come down to 35k of the above mentioned config. I hope the 4gb ram is of 1600 mhz. I will replace the hdd by 1 tb.

I need other options for cabinet support 3.0 usb.

What does 6 gb sata connection mean? which is better 3 gb or 6gb sata?

600 psu is enough for gaming, usbs and fans. Is it not?

I found the game benchmark of hd 7850 best of all the mentioned graphic card. Since morning i am looking it all the config in details and i am confused as to give more emphasis on processor, motherboard, cabinet nw and install hdd, ram, graphic card later. Is sound card required? Can i not run the pc or windows 7 on the intel hd graphics for a while? Later i can install a graphic card.

What does one mean by internal usb 3.0?
