Microsoft squares off with new logo

Out with the old, in with the new -- logo, that is. As Redmond gets ready to unleash Windows 8 and a wave of other new products, it does a little design housekeeping.
Microsoft has a brand-new logo to go with all the brand-spankin' new products it's got coming this fall.

The new design uses the long-standing Windows logo as its starting point, but gone are the wavy edges of that older look. The graphic element of the new logo is one squared-away image: the colors remain the same, and in the same order, but now they're enclosed in a square box. Equilateral sides, 90-degree angles, ta-da!

Overall, the updated logo is both the colorful graphic at the left and the newly refonted "Microsoft" to the right.

The change isn't coming at any old time for Microsoft. The company has a serious spate of major product releases coming up this fall, including Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, and the Surface tablet -- "one of the most significant waves of product launches in Microsoft's history," the company says today in a blog post:

It seems so....flat. Looks they are incorporating Metro in everything. Perhaps new logos for Office, Visual Studio too is in the pipeline.

The Window's logo is better than that nauseating blue monstrosity they planned earlier.

Nice logo.....Matching with the new MS products. Now they have redesigned microsoft.com webpage also to modern (metro) ui.

Does it implies that they arent going to change their "true colors"

But anyway, its nice. Changes are always welcomed, because well we too get bored by seeing the same icon again and again 24x7 for aroun 10 years now may be. Anyway, this also shows that microsoft would be taking all their steps towards the metro style whether be it Win 8 or Win phone 8.

I think the square one should be Windows logo. Microsoft doesn't need a logo IMHO.

There is no special logo for windows. I didnt find in the link OP provided and not anywhere.

When checking the official site of microsoft (Microsoft Unveils a New Look - The Official Microsoft Blog - Site Home - TechNet Blogs), there isnt any mention of any logo for "windows"

So, there is no different logo for windows, like always, its just samsung changed its logo with new revamped logos for xbox, outlook and all other its products.
