The most promising Android handset so far, the HTC Hero, has debuted in India, and residents of Maharashtra are getting the short end of the stick here. The recent hike from 4% to 12.5% sales tax on mobile phones has meant that the new handset will be available in Maharashtra for Rs 34,600, while it will cost Rs 31,990 in the rest of India – a difference of a whopping Rs 2,600 approx.

Same is the case with all handset. Even the Nokia 5800 which recently dropped to Rs.13.5K is available for Rs.16K due to the 12.5% VAT. :mad:

I so so much want this phone. May be will wait for another 1-2 months to get pricing and carrier (if) details.

Watever the price, this is going to be next phone... :-D
