Ya , in those steps you can recover your password in linux. Even root password.
1> Start Your computer using any linux live CD
2> Access the HDD partition on which you have install your linux.
3> On that partition open /etc/shadow using any text editor.
Now Look carefully at this file. On that file each line is divided into many field separated by a separator ":" .Look for the user name which have to recover password. On that line delete characters from first separator to second separator. That is first “:” to second “:”. But do not delete any of separator. Save and close the file.
Oh! You have done it. Restart your computer to boot by the installed linux. When prompted for password for that user just left the field blank .
