+1 for Nokia 5310
It rocks.
K790i can't be taken into account coz it has 3.2 MP cam.
I say you go for Nokia 5610 which has 3.2 MP AF cam & also excellent music.

5310 is great for music and has better sound quality than K790i (or any SE phone for that matter). However K790i has much better camera. I think you should go for K790i. It has an excellent camera and the music is good too. You may try 5610 as Cool G5 said, but its camera isn't as good as K790i either (despite similar resolution). However as with 5310, the music will be better.

I don't see anything funny. Maybe its news to you but most people here know that that the new Xpress Music phones from Nokia, viz. 5310 and 5610 have better sound quality than Walkman phones. And so does Samsung's Ultra Music range of phones. The days when Walkman phones used to rule in the sound quality department are long gone. While SE was content with the sound quality of its phones which they hardly changed from the original W800i, other companies have worked hard and gone ahead. You can check out Mobile-Review for proof.

I would suggest neither of them. 5310 looks very dull outside. Don't rely on tv ad.

It looks lot worse outside. K790i is good only for taking photos.

1) W580i
2) motorokr touchscreen phone
3) N70me
4) N73me
5) W660i
6) A1200

My pick will be 5700. the price difference between 5310 and 5700 is just 250 rupees. Yes. 5700 is now Rs.11k

It has S60 compared to S40 on 5310, 400MHz processor due to which the phone never hangs.

I know you have a 5700 and i agree it sounds pathetic. But that doesn't mean all Nokia phone sound bad. Nokia S60 phones have always sounded average (with the exception of N91 and N81). However Nokia S40 phones are much better sounding since the days of 6230. The latest two phones, i.e. 5310 and 5610 are even better sounding.
As far as SE phones are concerned, they too sound good but they haven't changed the sound hardware much since the first Walkman phone. While others are adding audio chips and amplifiers, they are content with leaving it as it is. As a result, the competition has moved ahead while SE has been left behind. As for changing acoustic drivers, thats not something everyone can do or want to do. Plus the gains aren't much.

well..dude have u tried the n81 or the 5310??
i tried it..its same as the 5700....
and yea i tried out the new xpressmuzic sets and n81 in nokia shops where they give trials...
n81 was nowwhere close to ne of the walkmans...it may sound weird..but its a fact..differs frm person to person tho..they were using sennheiser headsets...

and the 5310 i agree is quite a good music phone but please dnt tell me that the walkmans dont come close...

the jp-8 platform is much better than the s40 and more user frndly...

and as for acustic changes.tried it??...it makes a hell of a diff dude

Wat say abt dis??

Quality-wise the F300 performs on an average level .When though of as a music handset, the Ultra Music F300 is quite weak and yields not only to stand-alone players, but music players embedded in other phones as well – like those found on Nokia-labeled device, not to mention Sony Ericsson’s products.

I agree with the fact that all the previous generation Nokia XM edition phones are just a hype. even I've tried 5700 and as people say here it just marketting gimmik.

I've seen the pics clicked by 5610 on many many sites and the camera is nowhere close to k790i. however since i've personally not tested 5610 i can't comment on its music capabilities.

Among the tried and tested, i'd suggest k790i. you will need to flash the acoustic drivers ONLY if you want a louder loudspeaker volume (provided you think its low in first place) and believe me, it makes a hell lotta difference. Do try it out first and then comment! At about 11.5k i think k790i is a steal!

I've said it earlier and I say it again, only the N91 comes close to walkman phones when pure default audio quality is concerned. I haf no experience with N81, so won't comment on it.

I haf no experience with Ultra range of Samsung as well.

A lot of users may think that since I own an SE phone (the ancient W700i completely modded to the core!), I'm supporting it. But believe me you need to spend some time with the walkman range and XM to know the difference. And yes, there is a lotta difference! The walkman platform, since the early dayz, was a mature one which needs li'l change. Among those phones which I hafnt used (N81, 5610 etc.), I've been frank and hafn't commented.

Since somebody here decided to do some copy-pasting from Mobile-Review, I decided to do a bit of my own.

This is what Mobile-Review has to say about the sound quality of 5310:
The sonic experience delivered by the phone is pretty good, thanks to its built-in AIC33 chip, the one found in other latest and greatest XpressMusic offerings or the Nokia 5700. The volume you get in headphones is also pretty much sufficient, and generally the 5310 is a potent music-minded device, although, from my subjective point of view, its sound could be a tad deeper at times. While it can’t stand up to the Nokia N91 or the Samsung i450, the 5310’s sound quality is okay, being in line with Samsug’s Beatz Range and ahead of Sony Ericsson’s Walkman phones (not for all genres, but it does have an edge there).

And this is what they said about W910i, currently at the top in the Walkman range:
Regrettably, given the average sonic experience it delivers, we can’t really call it a true music-heavy solution. This, ridiculous as it may sound, though, is getting to be pretty much true of all Walkman-branded phones. Probably, after spotting the Walkman logo, some will imagine its sound-related marvels, but sadly these are only dreams and groundless thoughts. On every single blind test, the Sony Ericsson’s product ended up behind the Ultra Music and the XPressMusic solutions.

As for F300, I found this in the comparative review between F300 and W880i:
Maybe it will be hard to believe, but before the tests started I had had a strong feeling that the W880i and the F300 are roughly equally good at music, saving for higher volume of the F300; and the tests proved me right – the Samsung-branded offer decent bass, greater volume and generally superior sound quality to the W880i.

No it doesn't just come close. It blows it out of the water.

Did you read my post? This is my personal experience after listening to both brands with the same headset, equilizer & other enhancements off, same custom encoded song and testing continuously for one week. And I'm not forcing my thots on anyone, just giving my opinion.

Let the music play.....
Guys guys chill man. I checked out 5610 at a priority store and found it to be quite good. Am planning to buy it. I heard the quality and its good (for me). And also am not a big fan of a good cam but I can do with 3.2mpix. But EDGE and 3G were a puller for me towards this handset. Thats y I'm going for it.
