Well, I have a question?
Whether this is the right time to upgrade to a DVD-Writer.

I'm asking this actually coz one of my friends has recently bought a Samsung one. It is giving problems like early CD-Writers used to give. Like churning out costers for no good reasons, no multisessions more than 2, etc.
And moreover considering the speed and the cost also.

So shall I go in for the upgrade. Also tell me in your opinion which is the best buy for a DVD Writer in the current scenario?

Thanks.

@expertno.1 Don't mind it but you're just doing opposite of what your signature says. See you've just posted twice. No offence!

DvD writer is a good option these days. If not,one should at least settle for a combo drive or separate ROM. I heard Sony n LG are leading ones.

i dun think its worth upgrading yet ...
just wait a lil while longer ... till dl layered media becomes readily avaiable ..
by then the hd-dvd / blu-ray war will be over too and we'll know what the next generation of media holds for us ...
and ofcourse the drives will drop to peanut levels by then

Sony DRU 720 A is a good one. ihave it. though they claim that it writes in less 8.5 min.(4.7 GB of Data) it takes longer than that bcoz it writes only a 4x. it costs around 4700 in raipur (asked yesterday.) Benq writers come at 3800 onwards here

Maybe your media supports only 4x writing.

I Give it a full thumbs up as the cost has dramatically dropped and are as affordable as 4.3k.
If you consider burning on the current DVD-R media in comparison to the CD-R it holds enough capacity to wipe off entire stack of 6 CD-R discs to just one single DVD.Hence on the other note if you consider the price factor basis a DVD-R now would cost you as less as Rs.20 per piece and that is surely better than speding say Rs.50-60 on 6 Blank Cd's.Also Blu Ray and HD DVD aint anywhere near to the Indian Market right now and are no ways gonna be much affordable when they make a main stream entry in the market. So if you can wait that long then you very well can but i still think upgrading it is the best option right now albeit the Dual Layers arent much available and affordable right now but the existing single layers will do just fine for most of your standard activities like Music,Movies and Of course those oh so Big Games :D

I personally have a Sony DVD writer and I havent had any problems yet but Ive heard that Benq has some cool writers also. youll find many threads about good dvd writes here in the forum itself. Also you can check this site out for reviews and test results for many dvd drives.
