i think E4400 will be better than X2 4800+.i've seen a few benchmarks on the net and they were pretty impressive

I don't think so, good AMD motherboards are much cheaper than Intel ones, leading to much better overall price/performance ration in lower-middle-end segment.

^^^ yeah thats true, but if a guy doesnt want to oc he can easily do with a intel D945GCCL mobo which costs 4k.
cost of oc capable mobos for Intel r costly.

That is the precise reason for choosing AMD. It has very good motherboards below 5000. Far superior & affordable than Intel motherboards and better than 945 & 946 etc. AMD mobos are also superior in onboard graphics as compared to Intel. In the processor benchmarks, intel may be slightly ahead, just slightly but the overall cost vs performance & graphics ratio is with AMD.

Even after price cut the Intel E6420, 6400 [2.1 Ghz] are more than 9000 whereas its counterpart of 2.0 ghz from AMD are 5500 to 6500. Leaving apart the L2 Cache business. L2 cache can not make any processor faster but it prevents the processor from being slow. This phrase can be re-written in many ways.

u cant compare the proccies based on their clock speeds.
X2 3800+ is a 2GHz proccy and is left bitting the dust when compared to 6400/6420.....

Equally priced AMD and Intel processors are equally performing, 6000+ = E6600, 5600+ = E6420, also they are priced equally, but the motherboards make a difference, AMD ones are cheaper(~5k), so if u are on a low budget, and cannot afford a costly mobo, AMD mobo will provide all features you require at the right price.

But of-course if u can afford a good mobo for Intel (~10k), the overall performance after overclocking will be much higher than what AMD can provide...

^^^ thats not true.many ppl r buying them now.even i waited 4 the prices of the mobo to come down, but it didnt.so had to buy it.

Then how do u compare. I have seen all the reviews and they are just marginally better. That marginal edge has been catered for in AMD by thier price. Only 5% will OC. OC capabilities not only the criteria, and what about the extra expenditure on cooling components.

And by the way by OC, you are trying to achieve the higher clock speed only, that means procy can be compared on clock speeds for layman atleast.

^^^ k.then show me a review and benchmarks where a 6400/6420 has performed only marginally better than a X2 3800+
