I have a system with Pentium D 2.66 ghz processor, Intel D101ggc
motherboard, 512 mb DDR1 RAM, 160 GB Sata segate hdd, Asus DVD
writer, Windows xp pro sp2. My system was working fine for last 1
yr. Since last week whenever I start my system after post it is
showing the error messge "Disk failure, insert system disk and
press enter". I have changed my hdd power connecter, data
connecter, as well as smps (I m using 400 watt smps), but the bios
failed to detect sata hdd. My hdd is working fine in another
system. I have mailed to intel service centre, they advised me to
update the bios, I have updated my bios according to their
instrustion, but problem persists. Even an ide hdd is working in
my system. I have checked all the 4 sata ports. Is there any
problem in sata controller? Is there any sata to ide convertor
thus I can use my sata hdd in ide port. Pls suggest me a
solution.

Regards,
Sghosh

Its simple. Boot with your Sata HDD which shows problem "Disk failure, insert system disk and press enter", and when this msg is shown then insert the windows xp cd and press enter. It happened with me 3-4 times. And I do the same every time. Keep posting if problem persists.

it may also be ur hdd failing(my guess as it happened to me ) ,.my 80GB sata hdd was working fine with my old asrock board , it had bad sectors but still it worked fine . i changed the mobo to d101 and voila , it dint detect the hdd . tried to install vista , after multiple attempts with restarting the comp and changing sata cables it detected it and i installed vista . it worked for a few hours and then it used to give way ( it wudnt redetect the hdd after comp restart ) . .got that hdd replaced and i'm running fine now. . since the ide hdd is working , check with a different sata hdd , if the same thing happens , the problem is with the sata controller , if not say byebye to ur sata hdd.

You speak true my friend but the HDD does not die without any previous waring (Bad sectors) or without any problem. Sudden death of HDD can also mean that the power supply is not proper. Check for the proper earthing.

But still I think that my previous solution will work for the problem.

Initially after changing cables and smps when it was not working I thought about hdd failure. And I changed a new sata hdd, but same problem persists. Infact I boot up with my win xp cd, when I press for new installation or recovery consol it was showing harddisk is not connected either it is power off or disconnected.

Friend don't boot from the bootable cd. Start pc and when it shows error then enter the cd 1 and press enter. It will not start the installation process. It will instead start your windows.

hi.. you need driver files to be created to a floppy with the help of the image file which accompanies your motherboard cd.. once you start to install windows xp through bootable cd.. press F6 to install the driver for SATA and load the drivers through the floppy.. viola its done...

naa , i have the same mobo and it doesnt need any extra sata drivers . i'm pretty sure his mobo aint detecting hdd and probobly needs RMA , so extra drivers wont help..

but i dont think even the BIOS is detecting his HDD...

"You don't think". Either you know or you don't know. There is no I think. See it and then tell.
To go to bios in d101 you need to press f2 key at the start. And there is no problem of this board with sata.
