hello all,

I would like to install windowsXP in a machine currently running on win98.
The file system is FAT32. Suppose I install winXP on a partition other than where win98 resides, is there any possibility that any of the existing data and programs will be lost...?

I also want to know whether, the new WinXP installation will overwrite my existing Win98; if no, whether I will be able to get dual boot option.

1.) If u install windows XP on same partition where windows 98 is installed, then none of ur data will be lost ( if u choose to upgrade ur existing windows 98 ), but some s/w installed on windows 98 miht not work properly if they were not made to run on windows XP, like some DOS based s/w might not work. But in this case u can choose compatibility wizard to overcome to this problem.

2.) If u install windows XP on partition other than windows 98, then don't worry, no data will be lost of windows 98 parition, but the data on the same partition where u want to install windows XP might be lost, if u choose to format the partition during installing windows XP ( u can choose leave as it is at the time of installation, if u don't want to loose ne data ).
