i5 Rig under 25k

Purpose: Casual Gaming.

Kindly review my this build too:
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H Rs. 4200 x1
Processor Intel LGA 1156 i5-650 Rs. 8700 x1
PC Chassis Coolermaster Elite 310 w/o window Rs. 1600 x1
PSU FSP Saga II 400W Rs. 2000 x1
GPU Zotac GeForce 9600GT [GeForce 9600GT] Rs. 3600 x1
Monitor LG L177WSB [17" Wide] Rs. 6300 x1
Ram Kingston Single 2GB [ Value DDR3] Rs. 1550 x2
Storage Seagate Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 SATA [500 GB - 7200 RPM] Rs. 1750 x1
Total Rs. 30,700
(Exceeds my budget, any suggestions?)
Also Needed: Some KB+Mouse combo (1k?)

No nothing, No OC, nothing. Not for me so really can't say much. Just need some suggestions on the build above based on i5.

IF you are purchasing it for casual gaming then AMD Athlon II X4 is the way to go. It has a slightly lower performance in gaming compared to Core i5, but in all the other applications it performs slightly better or on the per with Core i5 due to having 4 physical cores compared to two Physical and 4 logical cores of i5.

My suggestion will be

AMD Athlon II x4 635 @ 4.7k
MSI 785GM E51 @ 3.6k
Kingston 2 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 C9 @ 1.55k
Sapphire HD5670 @ 4.8k
Seagate 500GB 7200.12 @ 1.7k
LG 22X SATA DVD @ 0.9k
FSP saga II 500W @ 2.1k
CM Elite 310 @ 1.5k
A.O.C 19" TFT (1440X900) @ 5.5K
Logitech K & M combo @ 0.7k

Total 27.25K. This computer will provide you very good multitasking capability with above average gaming experience. HD 5670 is far better than 9600 GT and also supports DirectX 11.

@ OP - I don't think there is any i5-540!!Its i3-540..
25k is too less for an i5(complete rig)!!
Go for Cilus's config.

@ssb: After checking mate - you are infact right!
@Cilus: 512mb 5670 not available here. 1GB a waste so was hesitant for 5670. Otherwise I agree, it is the Best Choice. Hence 9600GT

Thanks guys.
@Jass : I suggested BenQ itself but it's "his" personal preference for LG/Samsung.

I prefer buying local(Delhi) as RMA is less of an issue (exlc. Rashi) face to face.

I don't think its a good substitute for 5670. It's a big compromise for me so currently I'm waiting for something great to happen while on my 880G chipset. :)

The extra 512mb isn't VFM for the extra 600/- for someone like me on a tight budget. Thanks for suggesting.

Which i5's are you talking of? As far as i know , amd athlon x4's can't match any models of i5's. They compete with i3's. i5 6 series are dual cores with hyperthreading wheras 7 series are true quads with 4 physical cores sans hyperthreading.


As far as your suggestion goes, its great for the op and x4's are great vfm.

for 25k, a good rig is possible i think & infact from SMC's own bundle a good "value" gaming rig can be made:

Procy:AMD Athlon II X3 440 @ 3550.
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA74GMT-S2 @ 2500 (listed but not sure avl in SMC)
Ram: Gskill 2GB 1333 DDR3 @ 1500
HDD: WD 500GB Caviar Blue HDD @ 1775
GPU: MSI 5670 1 GB @ 5300
cabby: CM Elite 310 @ 1600 (taking your price)
PSU: FSP Saga II 400W @ 2000
monitor: Dell IN 2020 20" @ 6600
kb-ms: Logitech desktop @ 625

TOTAL: 25,450. bargain & get that Rs.450 off.

You are right here. I was trying to say Core i3. My bad.

Sam, the 740G based motherboard is not good, When a Athlon II/Phenom II CPU is plugged, it works on Hyper Transport 1000 MT/S (HT 1.0) compared to 5200 MT/s (HT 3.0). So it reduces the memory bandwidth and hence performance. I think 1K extra to get a 785G chipset is much better option here.

i know. it got HT 3.0 but works in HT 1.0 speed when a AM3 processor is plugged (strange complex logic).

but, Athlon IIs aren't that fast so even if it do gets bottlenecked the performance hit will be minimum (HT 3.0 speed matters only for Phenom II X4 & X6. that also when OCd). in practical sense there shouldn't be a noticeable slowdown. so if nbaztec can get a 785G board from Bio (or even a 760G may work fine) for around 3.5k or so, its a better buy.

Cilus amd uses 2 external buses. One is hypertransport and other is memory bus. Hypertransport is used to communicate with devices other than memory.

And he can get ASUS M4A78T M LE @ 2.7k. Its 760g. HT3.0
