Forgive me for my ignorance, but i have some doubts on how these works..I haven't played much games as i've been living for the last 4 yrs in hostel with max. Internet speeds like 30kbps( yeah i know..:shock: ). I recently moved back to my house & currently, i get max. speed of upto 200 kbps ( upto 8 GB, 50kbps afterwards )

so, are these steps correct or am i mistaken..

1. I download steam client/make a steam account.
2. Donate for the humble bundle & get Activation codes for games.
3. Download games using those codes.

is internet connection always required for playing the games ??? I am severely restricted by bandwidth.. :(
what happens if i format my pc ? can i download the games again with the same codes ?
is there any kind of validity on the codes ? because atm, i got my ancient core 2duo pc which i will be replacing soon with a laptop( by dec. 2013 probably ). Can i use the codes even at that time ?

Not sure of others, but u can play the games Offline.
Though internet connection is needed for first-time installation (if you got the game via DvD like Digit game demos).

Everytime games checks for updates i guess (not sure of offline).
For online, it downloads the updates first and then only you can play (sometimes the update will be in GBs) :|

once u activate a game on your steam/origin account it gets tied to it. u dont need the codes again. u can open the account on any pc and download the game.
and u can play offline. although online is needed for activation first and downloading the game.

So does that means if a friend of mine has bought a game on stream and he opens his account on my pc so can he download it on my pc as well ?

But you will need your friend's credential everytime and all the achievements you unlock goes to him.

^^ Thats cheating. :D

@ashs1 - Once you d/l game, take a backup i disk, so you can use it anytime w/o downloading again. After every update, i take backup of my games and once i finish any Single Player, i will delete the local content and keep it in backup drive. :)

Yup, you can do that but you will have to login to origin everytime to play (Although I think you may make it, offline login also, im not sure)

How big are these games in size? (I checked origin page of bf3 but didn't found it).

And how are these downloaded? I mean can these be continued(stop and resume) or have to be downloaded in one go?

Stop and reboot and resume? Or the pc needs to be on till the whole game is downloaded?
Which kind of file is downloaded- .exe or some kind of compressed file.

Sorry if these things sounds so noobish but I havent used stream or origin before :/

you can pause and resume. bf3 is around 15gb i guess.
they are huge.

you can restart your pc any number of times during download. both streamsteam* and origin use their own compression techniques during download. steam downloads maybe comparatively less in size.

Origin's login work offline, as well as steam. but you need to login online at least once in 1-2 weeks.
