How to connect laptop to desktop ?

Hi All
I want to connect my Acer laptop with my HCL Desktop .
How can I do it. Please advise

always search the forum before askinga question..
..
u can connect by setting an ip of one computer to 192.168.1.1 and the other to 192.168.1.2.
and do search the forum discussed before..

You'll need a crossover cable to connect to computers (in this case a desktop and a lappy) ..
After connecting both systems you'll need to run Network connection wizard (it should run automatically though) ..

what is crossover cable itwasnt me ? and where it is available ?

Also what ports should be present in desktop and lappy both to enable data transfer ?

a crossover cable can be brought from any computer shop. for data sharing u need one lan port in each pc

@esumitkumar does ur laptop have inbuilt bluetooth.

If it has, then buy a BlueTooth dongle ("enter" brand), for the desktop, install it & then run the "Network connection wizard" as told by @it_waaznt_me.

this method will be usefull, if you want to transfer data between the two PC's wireless or from a distance (e.g. frm other room... ) or when you have a bluetooth mobile phone.(now can connect the mobile with the desktop.)

the bluetooth dongle costs around Rs.400-500/-
