I'd like to know how u can find the ip address of a device connected via a network? For eg. in my office we have a lan connection and I'd like to know the ip addresses of the computers connected thru it. I know that u can go thru network connections and check the ip or goto command prompt and type ipconfig but how do u find the ip for another computer/device on the network thru your own pc? Thanx

^^ google for the computer or how to do it? :-D
anyway, you atleast need to know the name of computer that you want to know the ip address of. then just try pinging that hostname and you should get the ip address displayed. Or you could use a scanner like nmap to find the systems on your network and other details about them.

And what's the point of the above post? Is this Chit-Chat where you go on doing +1s and +2s ? Don't post just to post, do only if you have something to contribute. +1s can reside in Chit-Chat only. (..and same goes for all googlers..)

@OP, are you sure your aren't doing something illegal here?

there are numerous websites to find out!
showmyip.com being one of them :D

Legen-wait for it-dary!
^^ Wrong. showmyip.com doesnt display OTHER computers' IPs connected in the network :) Its showMYip :)

@OP

You need a network scanner. Thats all I'm saying. I agree with Hitboxx that this is a grey area, so considering that, I refuse to say more. I dont want to be reported or banned.

I just need to clarify this, is trying to find someone's ip address over a lan network illegal? And what's with this showmyip.com thing? Will going to this site expose my ip address? Is this some kind of trick?

First of all, plz mind ur language. It seems that u hav'nt read the forum's licence agreement. OK. LEAVE IT.

Where as the question of getting the IP Address then you can try this one.
1. Open run.(win+R).
2. Type in "cmd" without quotes.
3. After opening command/cmd, just type in ipconfig and press enter. It will tell u
i) IP Address
ii) Subset Mask
iii) Default Gateway.

It will solve ur problem and i hope in future you will never use such language.

i am merely showing that i feel the same way as the above poster...there is no reason for ppl to say 'google it' everytime someone posts a question. I did not feel the need to say all of it when the OP's words conveyed the same meaning...hence i just posted a +1 and i see nothing wrong in it

this will tell you the IP address of only your system i think. the OP wants to know the IP address of other systems on the same network

Ok I'll learn to mind my language but don't u think some ppl need to be taught a lesson. Everytime someone posts asking for some info, somebody has to open his big fat mouth telling him to google it. If u can't contribute to the forum then why post at all and if google is the answer then why have such a forum?

^^ for god's sake, at least read the post properly...he's not asking for his own IP...he's asking for the IP of another node on the network

wat are u doing digitians...
first of all its not a dumbo question..

and plz do read the question properly...he is not asking his own IP..i read the subject and i thought someone must have given him idea but..after seeing the replies i.e 18...i thought wat did he asked..then i opened it and found wat they r fighting on..
anyways not to drag anything...

"without any third party application"
the simplest way is using protocol i.e arp..
if he is connected to LAN..then there's a chance that he might have tried accessing ur IP..or if u r on server...

then just type arp -a
in command window and it ll show u all IP how has tried or ping ur n/w card..i.e ur IP...
"ARP" is address resolution protocol which shows all enteries in LAN which has pinged or even tried to access ur IP.

NOTE: ARP shows only recent enteries.
