how deadly can a virus be?????????????

i want to know whether virus can result in hardisk crashing???i want to know this because once my hard disk had crashed and it contained a lot of viruses.

well tht actually depends on how u define ur hard disk crashing

well , whenever there is some data loss from the hard disk people associate it with a crash

there can be many reasons for it

the damage can be physical (due to bad sectors)
which is not recoverable


and coming to ur point
yes a virus can cause a harddisk crash
but in any case it can be recoverable (atleast most of them)

but times we find virus attacking the OS ,and replacing it would solve the problem

There is no virus like thisbut i read somewhere that its possible. Some type of interface and bit of BIOS messing will result in incresing the motor speed of the hard disk. If the motor speed exceeds a certain level the harddisk burns out. But i think all new system have the capability to automatically switch off in case of over heating.

I also believe this.
And I think for newer systems no virus is deadly enough to make your PC a junk box.
Most of the viruses can be removed by formatting drives and repartitioning them.(Afcourse if you have removed boot sector viruses).

Hello definitely a virus can crash hard disk... and surely it can render your mobo unusable.....

But rarely such virus are found in wild..... so dont worry....

@alaap_anujan well i dont think there is any such virus which can crash the HDD.at worst scenario one need to format it and than evry thin will b fine but crashing i dont think so.
