aathva

Right off the assembly line
1. What is the purpose of the computer?

I want to build a new computer to run intense GSN3 simulations(cisco router simulating software) and also run VMware( virtual machine software), possibly concurently.
I do heavy multitasking

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
YES

3. What is your MAX budget?
25K

4. Planning to overclock?
NO

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
ubuntu 64bit & windows 7 64bit

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
500Gb

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want? If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
19inch

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
6

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Assembler

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
This week

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
To some extent

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
Monitor, keyboard & Mouse, speaker

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
Bangalore

14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary

I don't game. No desire to,
but would heavily use bells and whistles built in OS
COMPIZ FUSION under linux
AERO effects under windows 7
and I would watch HD movies
and would run the machine for long hours
so, should be reliable

and I need about 8 gig of ram,

So any hardware suggestions?

Thanks a bunch!

OP can go for H61 mobo for something around 3.5k. It supports i3-2100 and its really meant for Budget Rigs.

It's a good rig if you go for AMD. I suggest you select an APC 800 VA if you are planning to buy a graphics card (which you are).

I am not very sure that mother board is gettable anywhere although few unsold stock maybe available....see this-

Whatever i suggested is a H67 Mobo, its having no problems with Linux. H61 mobo's are not detecting Sata Drives in linux. But i hope it will be rectified soon.

Intead of GPU, add another 8GB of RAM's later, it will a Value purchase. JFYI my friend is using 16GB RAM's for operating 3 Linux Machines & his Ram's are killed once switches ON with i7 950 clocked at 4GHz.

You can use the full number of sata ports on the Mobo's for the HDD, no issues.

Go with Sandybridge, its more faster than the existing AMD's & first generation Intel i7's & good for VMware.

Note: Six core Processors are perfect for VMware, but your budget is limited.
