Hello guys; Recently my sister's laptop malfunctioned. We took it to a shop (guarantee period has expired). The technician tried to format the system but couldn't do it. He said the hard drive was malfunctioning. After replacing the hard drive the problem persisted and according to the shopkeeper , another hardware is not working as well. What could be the problem you think???

p.s. The technician was able to retrieve all the content of the hard drive using a cassette like thing to an external hard drive. But the OS can not be installed on it.

1)Ask the shopkeeper what exactly is the other component that has malfunctioned?

2) I think he cannot format as BIOS is locked(most manufacturers lock it) so to get you to pay more he will open the lappy reset BIOS and replace the drive.

Obviously the HDD might be damaged and need replacement. but some shopkeepers try to make you pay more.
