Hard disk is getting damaged frequently

I bought my first Seagate SATA 80GB hard disk way back in July 2006.Till today I have replaced my hard drive 4 times.This is because every time the Hard disk stopped responding.Though the Windows Xp Pro SP2 CD could detect the hard disk,but when i started formatting it and load windows ,error messages were shown.I have forgotten the error messages because every time i got different messages.
This time the age of the replaced hard disk is only 1 month.And it stopped responding.Yesterday when i started formatting the hard disk,it stopped formatting it at 4%.After 20 minutes it resumed and completed the formatting,but while "copying files" was being performed,it stopped responding after 11% and stayed there for 10 minutes.I,then,restarted it.Has my disk crashed yet again?

Why my hard disk is getting crashed so often?Can it be the problem of some other component? I want to mention that i do not use an Uninterrupted Power Supply(UPS).

It probably your motherboard. Are these SATA HDDs?

here comes the PSU man of the thinkdigit.


BTW the problem is "seagate", now it becomes "sewage". change it man there are many threads which proves that seagate becomes sewage. search them. i am also the victim of 25GB seagate lost my precious data 4 times. now i flushed that seagate hdd from system and using a wd hdd.

^^ I just dont only help this forums- but a total of 3 forums, and psu isnt the only line of expertise. System damages in India and China are because of sub standard psu alone. Its pretty hard to sell substandard psu in europe and the west is strict about it as well- so we get the rotten stuff. To add more wood to the fire, irrespective of the level of education and natural intellect, people only think when they have series of issues- therefore my psu advice seem to outshine.
As for seagate- there are multiple reasons why a hard drive can fail- not necessarily its always the generic manufacturing blooper or psu.

I agree with the sorcerer.
We have no regulations or standardization on PSUs here.
Even the dealer has little idea of what he is selling.

System Spec:

Intel 3.06 GHz HT
Intel original D945GNT motherboard
Seagate 80GB SATA
Sony DVD RW
ZION 512MB 533 MHz DDR2 RAM
iBall 400W PSU

I use iBall 400W PSU.If PSU is the culprit then other components would also die.But that is not happening.Again the HDD fails irregularly.Sometimes it fails after 1 year and sometimes only after 2 months.

Not necessary. Although the damages on other components can be seen when someone uses a stress testing software. Only thing I am skeptical doing so in your case to find out if other components are working or not is because of iball psu. Voltage irregularity and ripple dont come after a particular amount of time.
The only thing I could think of is back any important data and google for software called hd tune and run an error scan. If you see bad sectors, get the hard drive RMAed. After that, see if you (or an electrician or whatever) open the psu and see if the main caps (hopefully iball has one but I seriously doubted since it retails for 400-500 bucks) and electrolytic caps are leaking or not.
