Time To Play The Game
Hello everyone,

By Last help on htis forum I Upgraded my ram to 2 Gigs

Now it all comes to GPU

Here what is in my mind

1. Ati HD 4850 512 Mb
2. Nvidia 9800 GT 512 Mb

I know hd 4850 is a little bit better than 9800gt but as a previous Nvidia User it takes some suggestions and advises to make myself up for Ati.
tell me about these Gpus Power consumption coz right now I am using a 400W PSU with the following Specs :

Intel Pentium D (Dual Core) 3.00 GHz With Ring Heatsink Fan Cooler
Intel D945 GCNL MOBO
2 X 1Gb Kingston DDR2 RAM @ 667Mhz
Nvidia 7600 GT 512Mb (OC @ 300/500)
LG Optical Combo drive CD/CD-R/CD-RW/DVD
2 X HD 160 Gb SeaGate 7500RPM
Apocalpyse X400 MOD Case with 2 Aftermarket Fans

Plz Guide any part in the above narrated specs bottlenecks my pc by adding one of the above GPUs.
What can Hd4850 OCed to under stock GPU cooling?
How to get a PSU wattage calculated perfectly online coz most sites dont have updated lists?

Now I am in real GPU Crysis.

Help

Thanks in advance

Go for HD4850........
Dont even think abt 9800GT as it never comes closer to 4850's VFM and Performance....
HD4850>>9800GT in terms of price and performance..

nvidia

-----ATi-----
+1 for the 4850. The 9800GT isn't a bad card, but the 4850 is better. Your current PSU wont be enough to run this card.

HD4850 anyday !! ...and its not little its so mch better than nvidia 9800gt,check any review 9800gt doesn't even come close...infact it doesn't even come into picture while comparing HD4850.

i was nvidia user before this card ..but after buying this ATI card i don't find anything wrong with it ...

u did not mention which PSU.. ?? i would suggest corsair vx450 ..and if on stiff budget atleast CM500W.

Plz Guide any part in the above narrated specs bottlenecks my pc by adding one of the above GPUs.
u should be able to play all the games with HD4850 with pretty high settings but some games requires a C2D to perform better ...and CRYSIS needs every bit of ur system resource,be it proccy,faster/more RAM..and it can still give a torture to one of the best system available today....but i can assure u ..if ur monitor is anything less than 22"/24" its a bottleneck to HD4850.

What can Hd4850 OCed to under stock GPU cooling?
it can achieve upto 685 MHz ...and it depends on cards to card..but unless u are using a 24" monitor or above u will never need OCing it ...(with an exception perhaps for crysis).

How to get a PSU wattage calculated perfectly online coz most sites dont have updated lists?
this is good online wattage calculater

Now I am in real GPU Crysis.
crysis can be pretty harsh on any system ..so don't set really high hopes with it ..

look here -- *www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-4850,1957-14.html

system config is --

Test configuration:

  • Asus P5E3 Deluxe (Intel X38 )
  • Intel Core 2 Quad QX6850 (3 GHz)
  • Crucial 2 x 1 GB DDR3 1333 MHz 7-7-7-20
  • Western Digital WD5000AAKS
  • Asus 12x DVD player
  • Cooler Master Real Power Pro 850W
now even with a system like that ... the mighty gtx280 gets 34 fps with all settings high @ 1680x1050 with AA/AF ..that should tell u something .....so have a realistic hope and u will not be disappointed with HD4850.

but even at that resolution HD4850 gives pretty playable FPS with AA/AF off and all max settings...

go for HD4850 u will not regret it ...

Treatment in progress...
get the HD4850...it really pawns the 9800gt,albeit at higher resolutions.
u just cant go wrong with the 4850!
cheers and happy gaming :)

He meant that he is in a confusion as in which graphics card to buy!
Crysis works fine with this card, but his processor is slow..

Well hd4850 takes 9800gt and pows it GREAT !
I have a 17 inch wide LCD with 1280x1024 max res (well real ws is 1280x790).
I think this res is enough for me coz I feel get fps with lower res is better than get native lcd res with lowest detail unless your gpu give it hell on max out with fps 30+. What you think?

Next is can you tell me how much power hd 4850
Eats and whats the minimum psu I should buy coz here at my place CM psu are bit costly so I only bought a 400w single 12v rail psu last month as my psu fried to heaven
Thanks 2 all
