Give me reasons to buy orginal windows 7!

Moderators please note,it is not my intention to promote piracy in anyway through this thread,my intention is completely opposite,to curb piracy and to find reasons to promote buying original softwares.


Title says it.

Obviously other than the most fundamental reason PIRACY IS A CRIME.

But that reason is not enough convince my dad to spend Rs.7000 on a Cd that any "Computer Wala" can get for rs 200.

I am sure that many members must have faced this Dilemma.

All I need are for the more educated members to give me reasons to buy orginal windows so i can convince my dad to do so.
P.s - No need to state the Microsoft essential security reason,already tried that bought a norton cd key from office.

Which windows to buy?
I have decided on windows 7 64 bit.
This PC is strictly for gaming,so should i go with home,professional,ultimate?

And also where to buy the windows from? Is online cheaper?

Also if its any help then i have an original windows 98 cd key

I am using Windows Server 2008 R2 from Dreamspark.

One thing which you get from having a genuine windows is "peace of mind". I don't have to disable windows updates. And I don't have to "think" about which updates "not" to install. Installing the updates as its released means your windows gets patched against bugs and security holes as soon as possible. Which translates to a secure and stable OS.

Another advantage is that you can use tools which require a "genuine windows advantage". For eg, Windows Movie maker, and other tools which I don't recall right now.

You won't get the regular updates, patches, fixes etc? And you might have to deal with the dreaded "windows is not genuine" notification that may come up and spit at you every now and then like a pesky house owner asking for rent.

Seriously speaking, there are methods (loader etc) loaded into pirated windows, which would not only bypass WGA, but you can peacefully update windows anytime without any nags from M$...
And sorry to say, but it's hard to convince your dad to not buy the pirated windows, been there done that, we are surrounded by people where almost none buys windows unless it comes preloaded with your computer (laptop OEM disks), so of course if your dad is a common man like ours, he would only take the cheaper option (who won't.. ), but if he understands, well and good, it'd help some really good causes as mentioned in previous posts..

Okay so you mean to say that i can get an almost similar (if not better) version of windows for free from microsoft?

It would be really helpful if you or some other members elaborate on this.

What should i do after i get the key?

do some background check on the member like his no. of posts,replies in that thread etc to make sure he is not some 4-5 post new member.also the dreamspark account in that thread gives win 7 pro keys so you don't have any choice but keys are universal & works for both 32bit & 64bit.win 7 pro is more than enough for a typical user & 64bit is must if your pc has 4gb or more ram so go with 64bit as many games now-a-days demand lots of system ram besides graphics card ram.after getting the key all you have to do is use it after installing windows & then use activation wizard(just type activation in start menu search box).

once u start earning (if u r not employed now) then u can buy it without asking for a permission from dad...
