Max Budget:
25k (cannot increase)

Purpose of computing
Home PC with main Focus On Gaming (should be able to play full HD videos)

Planning to overclock?
maybe later

OS
Windows 7 Enterprise

Hard disk Capacity
1 TB

Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
definitely yes

when Will You Buy?
in 1 or 2 weeks

i dont have any cnfiguration of my own but shortlisted the processor and hard disk.
I'm thinking of buying Core i3 540 and Segate Barracuda ST31000528AS 1 TB

i have a dvd writer with IDE port and a LG 17" CRT monitor and ATX cabinet.
Will the monitor be able to play HD videos.
CAN THESE BE USED WITH THE NEW SYSTEM

if i buy new monitor then i'll have around 18k for other components.
But if old monitor will be used then i can go for better config.

please do not include mouse, keyboard or speakers.

ie 540 will nearly cost 6k,

as of Mobo you can go for Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H or Asus P7H55-M for nearly 5k or Biostar TH55B HD for 4k.

Western digital 1tb will cost around 4.5k

HD 4850 will cost around 6-6.5k

and a PSU Coolermaster realpower 500w will cost around 4k

A cabinet of your choice.

If you are thinking about mainstream gaming.. HD 4850 is a bare minimum. And for HD 4850.. a PSU of at least 450w is bare minimum. Its your call.

i3 and 1tb hdd is out of your budget if you want a descent gaming system.
the 17" crt will handle IMO 720p but 1080p will be a problem.
you can use your old dvd writer and cabinet. but first tell which cabinet is that?

AMD Athlon II x3 435 @ 3.5k
Gigabyte GA-MA74GMT-S2 @ 2.7k
G.Skill 2GB DDR3 1333MHz @ 2.3k
MSI GTS450 Cyclone @ 7.8k
WD 500GB Blue @ 2k
FSP saga II 500W @ 2.2k
DELL S2009W 20" @ 6.5k

Total - 27k..

this is what you need to enjoy gaming and hd movies..you can save 500bucks by going for msi hd5750 @ 7.3k

thank you for replying.

how about segate barracuda 7200. 1 TB its around 4k.

the cabinet is frontech xilo . it had intel 845 motherboard before.
the monitor is LG 700b ... will it cause any problem with MSI cyclone.

also i never used AMD processors.
which is more better AMD athlon or i3 540....i'm not a fanboy of intel but friends suggested not to buy AMD. it is not good performer as intel.
also in digit magazine on killer rig page when it comes to high end machines it recommends intel.

how about this mobo Gigabyte GA-H57M-USB3. is it more future proof.

the new config then will be if old monitor is used. will not watch HD contents but can the latest game work at good reolutions on this config.

i3 540 - 6 k
Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H @ 4k
MSI GTS450 Cyclone @ 7.8k
segate 1 tb barracuda -@ 4 k
G.Skill 2GB DDR3 1333MHz @ 2.3k
FSP saga II 500W @ 2.2k
old monitor

around 26 k

please help me to make a good pc.

^^ no use of going for Core i3 in your budget. Low budgets are AMD's territory.

AMD Athlon II X4 635 @ 4.9k
Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H @ 4.5k
2*2GB DDR3 Kingston/G.Skill 1333MHz RAM @ 4.6k
MSI GTS450 Cyclone @ 7.8k
Seagate/WD 1TB Hard disk @ 4k
FSP saga II 500W @ 2.2k
old monitor

(original source: Jaskanwar's config)

which is more better AMD athlon or i3 540...
Athlon II X4 > Intel Core i3. 4 physical cores vs 4 logical cores. Physical cores win.

Earlier you hadn't clearly mentioned that you are planning to use your old monitor. So, you were suggested an Athlon II X3 by Jaskanwar.

i'm not a fanboy of intel but friends suggested not to buy AMD. it is not good performer as intel.
also in digit magazine on killer rig page when it comes to high end machines it recommends intel.
and those high end machines with Intel Core i5 and i7 demand $$$.

true friends. always hate Intel. all i can say, at a definite budget & for a special use, both are good. low cost gaming setup are good with AMD processors so are midrange encoding rigs with Phenom II X6. at other budget, Intel suites best.

AMD is definitely more future proof than Intel who are phasing out the socket with Sandy Bridge.

GTX 460 will not come in your budget and we have balanced you a perfectly balanced config that fits your budget and purpose.

Go for GTS450 if you care about DX11 a lot. Many may think that it is future proof(which it is indeed). But we won't be witnessing even dx9 death in near future. Ofcourse it is a wise decision to go with gts450 which supports dx11 and has backup of Nvidia marketing strategies which will bring you optimized games. But, The raw computing power of HD4850 is more powerful than GTS450 which is nearly 1.5k costlier. And with ATI kicking in..with games like Dragon Age Origins, MW2, Medal of Honor, Battlefield... and with Havoc engine being used extensively by many Developers and Engines. I think you'll be having a nice time with HD 4850.

If you want.. just look at the benhmakrs.. and compare HD 4850 512mb with GTS 450 1GB.

*media.bestofmicro.com/D/9/260973/original/Crysis%201920.png

And note that.. Crysis is optimized for Nvidia GPUs. Even then, 4850 surpassed it. If you made up your mind to buy GTS450, note that you are paying extra for almost parallel choice.

And GTX 460 is way out of your budget. You have to shell out nearly 12k to get 1gb card. :)

@Jaskanwar Singh

thankyou for replying

there are possibilities that i'll change the monitor. I'll opt for 22".

please also tell which is good graphic card Nvidia or Radeon HD.

@vamsi_krishna's point cofuses me. If radeon HD is as good as cyclone so why i'm spending extra.

please help cause this is mainly a gaming pc.

HD 4850 is an older generation card. Consumes more power and creates more heat. Also, no DirectX 11 support.

Changing monitor without extending the 25k budget or with extending the 25k budget? I'll suggest extending it to atleast 31-32k if you want to get a good all round config.

I wud suggest u to use ur old CRT monitor for now,on which u can watch 720p contents n play games @ 1280x1024!Later on when u save up enough cash then go for a new LCD monitor!!How does this plan sound?
As far as NVidia n ATI r concerned if ur not so finicky abt power consumed by the cards n the only major thing u want from ur card is performance at a budget(like me)then go for 4850 otherwise look for nVidia!!

HD 4850 consumes 128w(49c) at idle and ~238w(83c) during full load. While GTS450 takes 105w(39c) at idle and 216w(73c) at loads. So, HD 4850 consumes slightly more power and runs at 10c temperature than GTS 450, because of the GPU fabrication.

If you have concerns about power consumption, heat, dx11 then go for GTS450.
