Gaming PC - 60-70k - Please advice

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Purely gaming. I play EVE and run multiple instances of the game so something that can handle 3-4 game clients at the same time. Beyond EVE, I play pretty much every new game so the idea is to run 95% of the games at high settings is good.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 65-70k

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Maybe, not to start off with but yes eventually.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Win 8 64 bit

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 2 tb.

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: I have dual 24 inch monitors currently.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: Only need to buy a tower and everything in it. Don't need a DVD drive or any optical drive. Already have monitors, speakers, keyboard, mouse.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: This week

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Will be done by assembler.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Delhii, will buy from Nehru Place.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:So I have shortlisted the following config,

Intel i5 4670k - 14750
Asus H87 Pro - 9500
Corsair Vengeance 1600 8GB - 5142
2 TB Western Digital SATA internal drive - 5476
Sapphire HD 7870 2GB GDDR5 Flex Edition 2 GB GDDR5 - 19000~
Corsair VS-550 - 3100
CM Storm Scout - 4500

Total - 61468

Any advice on what I have picked?

How about the i5 4570? Also, I am thinking of going for a HD 7950. I'm guessing I'll need a minimum 550w power supply?

I don't think the Vapor X 7970 runs on a 520w supply. The flipkart page says it needs at least a 800w supply.

try to fit GTX770 if you cant, then get FX 8320(~10.3k) in gaming both have almost similer performence :)
as you are going for dual monitor setup gtx770 or GTx760sli is best for you

I'm thinking of switching my config to AMD now. It does make more sense considering I want to run multiple clients of a game. I don't think I can fit a GTX 770 in my budget but I can go for a HD 7950, there isnt much of a performance difference between the two from what I can see and the price difference would save me about 8k.

Is the Asus m5a97 mobo good for overclocking? What kind of aftermarket cooler do you recommend for AMD?

Get GTX 760 then. It is slightly cheaper than HD 7950 Boost but performance is slightly higher. You can get Zotac one around 20K with 5 years of total warranty if you register the product within 4 days of purchase.

Is the 760 with 2GB that better than the 7950 with 3GB and Boost? Even if I was to overclock the 7950 a little?

Also, if I am going for a Nvidia card, I should get a mobo with SLI support rather than Xfire. How's MSI 990FX-GD65 Motherboard

Get 7950 if the 3 GB Boost version is available. Else, get 770.

All the AMD 990X/990FX chipset based motherboards support both SLI and Crossfire. And yes, 2 GB GTX 760 performs slightly better than 3 GB 7950 Boost. I don't know why you've asked that question: 7950 always comes with 3GB and 760 always comes with 2GB Video memory in general.

Check this article comparing 760 vs 7950 oce'd performance difference:

Didn't know it was so. I looked it up on Toms Hardware after I posted it here.

So this is my updated build after suggestions from you guys,

AMD FX 8350 - 12576
MSI 990FX-GD65 - 9000
GSkill Ripjaws 1600 4GB x 2 - 5600
2TB WD Blue - 5500 (I don't think the blue comes in 2TB, I think Green comes in 2TB)
Zotac/MSI GTX 760- 21000
Seasonic S12 II 620 - 5300
Corsair 300R/HAF 912 - 5200

Avoid green and get red.

Long Live Gojira!
A small advice, a GPU of higher memory is better than little performance increments. I'd suggest you to go for HD 7950. And also GCN architecture is gaining more ground since all the games will be coded for that architecture as next-gen consoles use that arch. There's promising AMD Mantle coming up which supports only(?) GCN.

^^ Actually what you are saying is true in some extent, if not completely. There is a high chance that upcoming games might get better optimized for GCN architecture due to their presence in boh PS4 and Xbox Next. In fact, Mantle, a low level API, which can optimized game programming by a hefty amount, used in BF4 and can take the full potential of GCN based cards.

^ congrats :) Happy gaming

BTW, green led fans? :D:D

Hahaha yep! Go green! The case came with three red LED fans and adding two more red would have been overkill :p The case gives me an option to turn off the red fan with a button so its all green for now :D
