Nintendo DS sucks and so does Nintendo Game Boy Advance that I have. Its because despite everything, its impossible to play free *ahem* games.

Its better to get a sony Play Station Portable and mod it.

Depending on console platform : DS,Nintendo 64,Nintendo Wii

DS : approx Rs 8.5 k
Nintendo 64: n/a
Wii: approx Rs 25-30k (ur niece will love this one)

2. I have seen in many videos that we can use Genie codes to change game settings, use cheats, play any desired level in games. Is it true? Can we enter those alphanumeric codes using its remote or are they only for computer use?

true.u can enter through gameshark its 12digit(not exact) alphanumeric code

3. Is there any 64 version available for Nintendo? How much does it cost?

Nintendo 64..its far more better than Nintendo DS in terms of graphics...just chack
Mario 64 screenshots... u will know better

4. Can Nintendo box play old Video game cassettes?

No..bcoz those are 8-bit ones

5. Now come to PS2. How much does it cost? I asked in market. Here it costs approx. 6K in my city.

Rs 6-7k depending upon its modded or not

Yes. U have 2 google...coz i dont have knowledge about this one...

No..it cannot be used with normal Media video games to enter genie codes

for an 11yr old i will prefer Nintendo DS Lite (not old DS) it has wi-fi ,LAN & many more features...specially its touchscreen technology & u cant believe future games
will be played thru human voice recognition...i.e u speak a particular word 2 play
moreover its portable so will be easy for her 2 take it anywhere
or if have a heavy pocket then go 4 Nintendo Wii...its the best selling console out
there loved by all ages....
