firefox probs

Hi,
I use forefox 1.0 ver but offlate i hav been experiencing some probs..There is a critical updat sign on the upper right hand corner of the browser and wen i click it it downloads the setup file of firefox ver 1.0.1(i guess its similar to ver1.0)..having said that wen i opened it now,it poped some error msgs at me that it has to restarted for the effects to take place and something like that.i did all that but the browser wont open.i uninstalled it and reinstalled it again but again wen i click on that critical update,i get the error msgs..

second prob is wen i open any jpeg attached files in my mail via firefox,it opens a popup window asking how to open that said file stuff..wats the prob here..

1. First download a copy of 1.0.1, there is a problem with the critical updates (saw at neowin). Just install it on top of ur old 1.0 version. There should be no problems, even the extensions and plugins will work ....

2. Hmm, now when it shows open with, then click on the option--> choose from the list of programs-->now select the application, ie ms paint or whatever and check the option "use this program" only or something like that, now it will be done.

well the old ver is 1.0.1 mate..regarding the 2nd prob,in that drop down menu,ter was no option for MS paint..i dont hav such probs wit IE....

well the old ver is 1.0.1

Hmm, What are u using now? 1.0 or 1.0.1?
If u use 1.0, then download 1.0.1 (dont use update thing) and install on top of 1.0

n that drop down menu,ter was no option for MS paint

If not ms paint, then any image editing application like picture viewer, etc..., see properly, thee should an option.

Can u post the screenshot?

Might be for some extension or plugins that u have installed. Else just ignore it

no swetanshu.plugins r already updated..ya am ignoring it now ...but some probs r still ter..maybe i dont know to tweak the firefox yet..am still learning to tame the fire....cuz everytime i open firefox,like in IE-wen i type say only goo-i get the full adress viz www.google.com..but it doesnt come in firefox adress bar.geting me..I hav to type manually the full adress of say yahoo,rediff,google etc etc.....wat cud be missing..

krisjr, the auto complete will work only when u have used the webpages over a period of time..., like when u have used for atleast two times, then it will show up.

ahem doc,i get it now..u hav been very helpful over a lot many times now...do u use firefox and r u having any issues wit it..do share tips on how to tweak it ok mate..i hav a internet wer speeds range from 1.7Mbps to 1.12Mbps..havent done justice to such godly speeds...

Just do the following:
1.Open Firefox.
2.Type "about:config" (without the quotes) in the adress bar.
3. Find these options, double click each one and change to below values:

network.http.max-connections: 48

network.http.max-connections-per-server: 24

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy: 12

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server: 6

network.http.pipelining: true

network.http.pipelining.maxrequests: 8

network.http.proxy.pipelining: true

I tried it on my 256 kbps, but the result is negligible, anyway try.
Anyway there are many thread for tweaking FF, just search the forums and u will get to know better.

No i am just browsing sites and twice it happened today.in the morning i installed a java run time plugin...tats all...am stil clueless.

May be u shud try uninstalling FIREFOX completely by removing all folders created by it and also removing all registry settings.

This sounds like your graphics card driver ...

Maybe Firefox is consuming too much resources? Have you installed a lot of extensions? That is a quick way to kill a firefox installation.

Try uninstalling firefox, and do a fresh install of 1.0.1 all over again.

Well, ujjwal, he seems to be having a lot of problems AFTER a serious DX install error and then tried reinstalling Win98SE on top of the previous corrupted install, so you never know. The root cause of all the problems he's posted seems to be the OS. Take a look at his other posts listing his problems.

yes frenz,am right now besotted with lots of probs..ya sis 620 is my Gfx driver..dont know y its cmin..i was njoying my days with internet speeds of 1.7mbps etc and geting spoilt with choices of things to download..then spoof,the eagerness to play NFS HP2 proved to be a serious bolt for me..everythng since ten is just chalta hey type..can surf,download,but still as enoonmai said,i cant use office,small small probs ambush me each day..good learning process for me eh!can gv the microsoft guys a heart attack...
