Extensive RAM usage without reason.

No highs, No lows = Bose.
I have 2 sticks of 4 GB (Corsair 1333) installed on my system. No extensive apps being used and yet 50% of memory being used. I think the cause is Windows and my pc needs a format but not sure of it.
Here is whats happening -

UPDATE 1

I just checked cpu usage by various apps and was amused to find that Windows media player was using atleast 50 % of one core and at times a complete core.
Going to uninstall it an post results soon.

UPDATE 2

LOL - Seems like the problem is solved ... Here are the results post uninstalling -

Windows Media Player isn't supposed to take that much memory.
I am afraid there must be some other source of this anomaly. :|

Lost in speed
Maybe, WMP maybe busy updating "Media info" from Internet.
Goto WMP-File>Tools>Options>Privacy.

Disable "Automatic updates" for WMP too.

I felt the same and kept on ignoring WMP.

When I checked cpu usage by WMP it was 40+ everytime in the task manager.

I am 200 % sure it was the MP because norton gave me warning 7 times about the same this week.

And after uninstalling, not once has the memory usage gone post 2.3 gb

Check the internet for WMP using too much CPU and Memory - you ll find many many threads about the same ... It seems in some cases, the wmp acts like this.
