Encoding Videos for iPod Touch

Hi guys,

I purchased iPod Touch last month. Now the problem is that although it plays videos in 720p but fails to play some other videos. I have videos in various formats but it plays only mp4 videos and not all of them too. I think it supports files only with specific characteristics.

I converted videos to Apple supported formats using a 'Total Video Converter' but it reduced the quality considerably which I don't want.

The Apple site lists various formats which are supported on iPod but these formats just don't play.

So could somebody please tell me, to what format should I convert the videos or which tool should I use for conversion without affecting the original quality.

Install this app in your touch and you can watch almost any format on your device without having to encode it in mp4/m4v. It can even play 1080p content, which is not supported by the inbuilt video player.

There is also a free app(search free video player in itunes and you'll find it) but I like AV Player the best.

Only MP4/MOV files supported by default.

use Handbrake (its the best I use)...& convert the videos to .m4v format.
u can also use .mkv but then u will need AVPlayer which the best player I have used ever.

another very good converter is FreeMake Video Converter

both Handbrake & Freemake are better then TVC & Xilisoft

It can even play 1080p content, which is not supported by the inbuilt video player.

1080p of .MP4/.MOV format only & not .MKV (lags a lot in fps)
