whatever the distro u suppose to use make sure ur lan card is detected(mostly).
post the output of lspci from a terminal(konsole).at "$" prompt
check for "Ethernet controller" in the output.post the output here.
U can easily configure dataone on opensuse.so no distro change is needed.
as i dont use suse linux.but found one link explaining dataone+suse:
the procedure was quite simple for establishing BSNL DATAONE connection on
SuSE.
1)go to YaST
2)select network devices
3)click on DSL to create a broadband connection
4)add a dsl connection
5) in PPP mode select PPP over Ethernet
6)configure your ethernet card
i)select the appropriate one
ii)set the gateway as 192.168.1.1
iii)you can set your own ip address or let DHCP provide you a
dynamic ip address .say set it to 192.168.1.30.
iv) you can set dns server ip by yourself if you want .the BSNL
service provide give you these details.or else the pppd will automatically
search for DNS and set
7)you can activate connection at boot time or you can do it manually.
8)now proceed to next step by providing name of the service
provider.setdataone(your choice)
9)set the user name and password for your connection
10)now select the checkbox for "automatically retrieve DNS" and "set DNS
automatically" if you havent set the DNS yourself.
11)proceed further and your dsl connection has been set.
a confirmation of this setup is that you get an icon on bottom panel
resempling a white coloured plug left-click on it to dial in and right click
to disconnect.
you can also set the DNS manually by editing /etc/resolv.conf and adding
lines as "nameserver xxx.yyy.zzz.www"
you can also manually start the connection by typing" ifup dsl0" at the
prompt in terminal
i hope this helps those who are unable to connect to BSNL dataone in SuSE
