Hi,
This is a very serious problem I am facing while downloading large files over internet. When-ever I download a large file (say, a file greater than 50 MB roughly), the file get corrupted and I need to try for the same file for 2-3 times. Recently, I tried to download SQL Server Express Edition (250 MB) for 2-3- times, but every time while extracting it says, "The File is corrupt". The same problem occures for other types of files also.
Is there is any way to avoid this? Is there is software to avoid this? My current download manager is FlashGet and I use FireFox. I am using BSNL Broad band 256 kbps connection.

I dont know how Digit People download such GBs from internet?

Do one thing... just download few large files like what u wrote... then if they doesnt work out on ur PC... just take them to friends PC to see whether the problem is really with ur PC or the files is really damaged....

I have exactly the same problem as he has.... And the files are getting corrupted only when i download the files using Flashget... If i download using monzila i dont get such problems...

N my system is new.... With 2*512 mb Transcend RAM module...

Where is the problem???

Will downloading files by spliting them in to pieces using flashget cause this problem????

BTW how 2 check RAM using memtest86 ??? I have installed it but i dono 2 use it...

The most probable culprit seems to be some kind of cleaner which automatically deletes temporary files etc. (like Ccleaner or something)

what might be happening that it could be deleting downloaded packets before the downloader actually builds the final files.

Just a guess, cause smaller files are getting downloaded easily, if there would've been a hardware problem even smaller downloads should get affected.

P.S: Memtest 3.5 is out, it works directly from windows, you don't have to make a bootable CD as for memtest86.

Thanx for replies.
But I dont know how memory can be the problem for downloading any large file? The more logical reason could be packets being "eaten" may be by some software or by any other means. Even if I transfer file to any other machine, the same error at the same stage of extraction (or installation) occurs.

The problem is still pending, can anybody please help me???

memtest 3.5 does not chk the part of memory which is in use to run windows and applications , so wise thing is to use memtest86

Hi,
Thanx for all. I have just upgraded my machine and now the SQL Server Express Edition just got downloaded successfullly at one stroke. This time I downloaded using Windows XP instead of Win98. Also some flashget settings changed as follows:
The time for "AutoSave Listed File Every x minutes" changed to 3 from 10
The KBs for "Write Data to Disk Every x KB" changed to 100 from 200.

I dont know whether these settings affected the download process or not. Can anybody please tell me about this?

ThanQ again and Happy Diwali in Advance
