Disk Read error

My PC recently display the message

"Disk read error
press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"

after the post screen

I pressed the above keys but nothing happens. Even when i try to install WinXP using a bootable disk, there is error saying that setup cannot continue. Please help me!!

Maybe ur hard disk has bad sectors... Try using a friends hard disk and running the Pc( will work only if he has win 98)
or try running ur harddisk in ur friends PC.... if it works in him then it is OK..just format it...or else.................

1) try reconnecting the hard disk
2) try resetting the cmos
3) try the hdd on other computer
4) try formatting it

Hmm what type of error do you get and at what stage of installtion

Ok now do onething

Get a knoppix live cd
use and boot through it
if it is able to show the hdds (probably hdda1 hdda5)
and if u able to view the files then the hard disk has no problems and u need to format it

if u r unable to view the files then probably there is da hard disk crash..take it to service center
