Disk Active time spikes upto 100% & stays there

I installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 14.04 & Windows 8.1 just Yesterday.

Now in Windows 8 There is a pecular problem. Whenever i interact with any object on the screen, the computer freezes, for about 30-40 secs. This happens almost all the time say 5-6 times in 10 minutes. The reason behind this was that DISK ACTIVE TIME which is shown by Task Manager spikes up to 100% & stays there for about a minute or so.

But in Ubuntu, none of these things happen I can use Ubuntu Lag free conforatably

The same thing used to happen with my previous Drive, so i got it replaced from WD, but even after replacing same issue still persists.

Pls someone help.

My System Config :
AMD Phenom X6 1055T 2.8GHz
Gigabyte 880GM-UD2h
Kingston 4GB DDR3 HyperX
WD Black 1TB

This is a big problem in Windows 8.x. You can disable I'ndexing' ans 'Superfetch' services from services.msc. It solved the problem for me.

open task manager and click on 'process' tab. click of 'disk' option and see which apps consume the disk continuously.
do you have Microsoft security essentials turned on?? if yes try disabling it. or you might wanna reset the search indexer.

Hey thanks,
I will try it but i Dont think that is the main culprit here.

Becoz from past 1 month i was using this OLD 80GB WD IDE Drive, which was working perfect.
But once i got the WD Black back from replacement & used it. It started giving the same problem it was giving previosuly.

So if that services were a problem, then it would have affected that drive too

Sounds Confusing :confused::confused::confused::confused::duh2::duh2::duh2:

There is no such big process to be mentioned in that case.
There are few 3-four processes using 0.3-0.5MB Disk & rest are using 0.0MB DIsk

I've faced the exact same issue and it was due to a dying HDD or win 8 just made it bad with too much I/O activity I'm not sure. But if you're using a genuine version of win 8 then update it or else migrate to 8.1.

Internet is full of people complaining about high disk usage in Windows 8.x. I have all updates installed and issue still persists. There is this file ntoskernal.exe that causes the issue for me and many other people.
