Price is too high. Maybe one of Dell's strategies to introduce at a high price and then offer discounts.

But it is one hell of a machine for gamers!

Holy cow!!! starts at 4.8 KG!!!!!!
I wonder where wud it end if someone choose all kinda monsters like 8800GT SLI, Raid 0 etc. Its sure to hit 6~7KG!!

Its more economic to buy a bike and tie up ur desktop and take it wherever u go.:D

Well its not designed for portablilty...it is designed for gaming and durability so its built sturdy, but still doesnt justify the price. Would have been VFM if it was priced around 75k

wall street journal reports that Dell is going to discontinue XPS line-up and focus entirely on the Alienware gaming brand.
I hope not. I saw this in here:

Dell Shifting Gaming PCs to Alienware Brand
Dell 's Alienware subsidiary is being asked to step into the spotlight as Dell's gaming PC, with the XPS line shifting into "premium products," a Dell spokeswoman said Tuesday.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Dell will phase out four undisclosed XPS models, and let Alienware shoulder the burden of designing future gaming PCs. But Anne Camden, a spokeswoman for the company, denied that the XPS line was going away, at least quite yet.
"Is Alienware going to be our gaming brand going forward? Yes, this is true," Camden said. But, she added, there are many XPS products that will still maintain the XPS brand name.
Dell is combining the XPS gaming team with the Alienware gaming team under the leadership of Arthur Lewis, currently head of Dell's gaming group. The process has ben underway for "some while," Camden said.
However, the move represents a shift for Dell, which maintained that the Dell and Alienware lines would not overlap. Alienware chief executive Nelson Gonzalez said at the time that he didn't anticipate any overlap. "Dell is going to do what they do," he said. "I'm sure they have no plans of eliminating the XPS," he said. "They're going to have their lineup; we're going to have ours."
The Alienware and Dell Renegade lines will "complement, not compete with one another," added Jess Blackburn, a Dell spokesman, at the time of the acquisition.
Dell appears to be making a stronger distinction between what simply is an innovative product, and one that is designed for gaming. For example, Dell's Camden said that the XPS One, an all-in-one PC, would still maintain the XPS brand, as well as the Dell XPS 1330 and XPS 1530. "What you'll see is that we're transferring to premium products," Camden said.
When asked specifically whether Dell would phase out the XPS brand, however, Camden didn't answer directly. "It's going to be around for a while," she said.

Some relief: Source1
The system manufacturer will not kill the entire XPS line, but rather the XPS machines that are specially crafted for gamers. The XPS notebook models are among the company's best-sellers and they will be available, at least for the near future.

Although Dell did not specify when the slashes will occur, the first models to be pulled off will be the company's XPS WoW notebook and the 730 gaming desktop model.
Source2
Dell announced today that it intends to phase out its XPS desktop systems in order to prop up Alienware sales. Dell acquired the much-smaller boutique computer manufacturer in March, 2006, but initially believed that the its own XPS products would complement Alienware's custom-built systems rather than compete with them for sales. This assessment appears to have been incorrect; Dell now reports that XPS sales have eaten into Alienware sales to a certain degree.

Dell's XPS Notebooks to Come with New Graphics
- Or at least what's left of the XPS series

Dell is reportedly planning a graphics update to its XPS notebook series. The news comes right after the company disclosed that some of its XPS notebook and desktop offerings will not be available anymore.

According to the company, the first series of products to get the graphics update will be the 17-inch XPS M1730 gaming notebooks. Dell also claims that the upgrade will replace the dual 8700M GT graphics with the more powerful dual 8800M GTX GPUs, which should bring a significant performance boost in playing the latest gaming titles.

Dell has two scenarios regarding the graphics update. While XPS users who enjoy tinkering with their notebooks could ask for a do-it-yourself kit, the rest of the users should require an installation package.

"An upgrade solution is in the works, and will hopefully be released later this month. From what I’ve seen, there will be two options, one with an installation package, and one do-it-yourself kit for those die-hard techies", writes John Blain, Dell's Consumer and Gaming Liaison on the company blog.

However, upgrading the graphics using a do-it-yourself kit is expected to be a painful task, as the notebook is held together by a large number of screws.

"Considering the number of screws holding this beast together, most people will probably want the installation, but the do-it-yourself kit will be appealing to people like me that like playing with computer innards. The price of these upgrades is yet to be determined", he continued.

However, users who upgrade their graphics to the dual 8800M GTX GPUs will have to do without Dell's MediaDirect 3.3 technology. MediaDirect is a proprietary technology that allows customers to watch DVD movies, slideshows, or listen to music even before booting up the operating system. The specific code is located on an additional partition and can be accessed by simply pressing the MediaDirect button.

"Media Direct incompatibility means that the MediaDirect software needs to be upgraded. Unfortunately, the upgrade will require a reformat and reinstallation. Beyond that, it will also require you to repartition the hard disk to make room for the new version of MediaDirect, which is a bit larger", said Dell.

Still waiting on your Dell XPS M1330? Here's why.
If you ordered a Dell XPS M1330 back in June and still haven't received it, here's why: paint colors. On Dell's Direct2Dell blog, Dell's senior vice president for the consumer product group Alex Gruzen says that "Tuxedo Black" is the only paint color currently living up to Dell's expectations.
Gruzen says that the "finish on the XPS M1330 is similar to a custom paint job on a car, but with one additional complexity—on a car, typical viewing occurs from several feet away. With a notebook, the typical viewing range is much closer…" Gruzen then goes on to explain that this requires more attention to detail. Apparently the white and red colors ("Pearl White" and "Crimson Red") require about five coats of paint, which is more than the Tuxedo Black requires. Gruzen says the additional paint coats add to the "opportunity for dust contamination." Pearl White has since been discontinued, although at the writing of this post Dell's website does not reflect this announcement.
Gruzen also adds that Dell saw a higher demand for the backlit LEDs in the XPS systems than expected, which has resulted in a shortage of the bright white LEDs.
No word on when the systems will begin shipping in full force, although Gruzen says that Dell is committed to shipping the systems as quickly as it can.
