I've been having this problem for quite sometime and I can't figure out why this is happening. On Fedora and Dreamlinux, the clock gets set to some time and I've to manually change the time all the time. This doesn't happen when I'm in OpenSuSE. The problem is, this time is set to the hardware clock as well, so Windows considers the set time to the BIOS. I've not abled UTC and the timezone is specified correctly. I also tried the command "hwclock --hctosys" after setting the correct time, but after a reboot, it's still the same :( Why does this happen and how to fix it?

Just change the time in the BIOS to GMT ie make it 5 1/2 hours backward. Ubuntu messes it as it doesnt give an option to choose That Hardware clock is set to Local Time.

Eg: Suppose its 11 AM local time but it would show 4:30 PM in Ubuntu bcoz of +5 hrs 30 minutes, just change the BIOS clock to 5:30 AM. Now all the OS will show correct time.

Isn't there a fix in linux itself?

I had found this before posting, but it hadn't worked out, see if it works out for you gopi *dreamlinuxforums.org/index.php?topic=1956.0

I just select my location and it pretty much works right from there. Alternatively, why not use NTP programs and sync with time servers?

@QM-NTP works fine when I'm connected to the net, but sometime I just don't connect to the internet. I'm still facing this problem on Fedora and Dreamlinux. Is this some kind of a bug?

Your distros have been configured so as to detect the bios time as UTC. You will have to change this option to local time. Methodology varies with the distro.

For Ubuntu read this page (scroll way down)

According to them this UTC problem has been solved in Intrepid.

@Neville-Thanks a ton for the post. NTP still can't fix the problem :( Seems there is a bug in Dreamlinux. I'll try reporting this. Since this is RC4, it should be fixed in the stable version. Let us see what they have to say about this problem.
