Can non IT or CSE students apply at top tech companies?

Can non IT/ CSE students apply at top tech companies?

Can a student from Electronics and Communications Engineering department apply for a job at one of the top tech companies (like Microsoft, Google and Facebook)?
Or is the entry restricted to students from CSE and IT departments only?

P.S. The student has decent skills in programming and web designing.

Chances are very slim for very top companies like the ones you mentioned, but other mid range IT companies hire people from out of the IT students frequently.

Google, Microsoft, etc. will pick up only those who have really strong tech skills. However, every company has non-technical staff as well such as those in HR, marketing, sales, etc.

Edit : Once you get relevant experience in any IT company, you can then move to even bigger companies without much hassle.

So is it okay to apply "off-campus" in one of the above mentioned companies if one thinks one has the required technical skills? I mean, do the companies have any policy against hiring freshers from other departments?

You will have to ask your college's T&P department (if they are arranging for your college to attend) or you can directly contact whoever is the HR of the hiring company whether you are eligible to attend. Which company are you talking about?

I am talking about the top tech companies - like Microsoft, Google, Facebook and Adobe.
My college is not attending, so asking our TPO is not an option for me.

Most companies don't care of the stream you studied. they only look for degree. if you have the required skill then you will get the job.

A lot of top tech companies look for graduates with excellent grasp on mathematics - so if your degree is in mathematics, applied and engineering physics or electrical engineering; your chances are higher than other non-IT graduates.

For the companies you have mentioned best way to get into is to earn an internship. Microsoft has large R&D departments in India. So getting an internship is not so difficult in Microsoft but for other companies it is very difficult to earn one.

Generally they allow non-IT guys.
