Buying new pc, want your opinions

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')

Ans: gaming in 1080p with max setting in stereoscopic 3d. will play most of the modern high demanding games.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.

Ans: 160,000 - 175,000.

3. Planning to overclock?

Ans: yes.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?

Ans: win 7

5. How much hard drive space is needed?

Ans: 1 tb -2 tb

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.

Ans: yes. 24-27 inch, 1080p, nvidia 3dvision 2 enabled.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?

Ans: none.

8. When are you planning to buy the system?

Ans: february.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?

Ans: no. but i'll build this one.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?

Ans: kolkata. locally or online, as long as i get what i want.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?

Ans: here's what i've decided. give your suggestions.

thanks a lot for your reply...

1: i'm getting asus monitor for 36500... so only 3500 rs extra compared to benq XL2420T [225000]+ nvidia 3d vision 2 kit[10500], at first i was going for this one only.

2: two gtx 670 in sli should out perform one gtx 680, anyway i don't like the 680's as they tend to run hot, and 670's can easily be oc'd to perform like the 680s. in this review, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 SLI Review | techPowerUp you can see that the 4gb 680 sli beats the 4gb 670 sli setup by 6-10 frames max, so not worth the extra 7000 bucks per card i guess. thanks for the suggestion though. and i'm gonna need the 100+ fps so that i can play smoothly in 3d.

3: about the psu, that's something to worry about. is 1050w necessary? if it is so then i'm gonna go with the one you suggested. i'm not bothering about modular psu's as i'm gonna use bitfenix's single braided cable extensions.

4: can the messed portion of the side panel of phantom can be replaced with a window somehow? i don't know anything about case modding. :(

5: thanks a ton, i mean a ton for suggesting the ups. can you please provide a link or something. it would be really helpful.

6: i was thinking about razer mamba for the mouse. but i dunno. some reviews are saying it's worse than ****. some are saying it's awesome. surely it's over priced, but the mouse looks freaggin sexy!!! :p btw, which one will be better... the G9X or G700?

7: thanks for all the other suggestions once again!

At your budget, I will go with i7 3770K because it is a better future proof solution from Intel due to its HT support resulting better Multi-Threaded performance. For, GPU, GTX 670 SLI is better choice for Stereoscopic 3D in a 1080P 120 Hz display. For PSU, I think 1050W is a good solution if you overclock both your CPU and GPU by a good margin. However, for a cooler, 4.5K Air Cooler is good enough, 7.5K cooler is little over kill.

1. asus vg278h is amazingly good monitor

2. personally i prefer single cards than crossfire or sli until its absolutely necessary.. well if you buy gtx 680 then you can always add another later

3. Firstly corsair's hx psu are 80 plus gold and secondly extra power supply is always handy for future upgrades...

4. no idea :-?

5. no idea :-?

6. mouse and keyboards are personal choices. But i would advice you to take after sale service into consideration and logitech and corsair keep there customers happy :)

Hope this helps cheeros :p

The Incinerator's config is very nice but may be you can get 2TB black for 10000 INR.

Green's are sort of considered not up to mark.....

also a better PSU something with 1050W

How much better is this compared to a CM Hyper 212 Evo + CM 90cfm fan/CM Xtraflo (total 2.7k) ?
check this out:
In the graph below, at full load you can see how many degrees Celsius hotter the CPU core is than the air outside the case. The lower this difference, the better is the performance of the cooler.

The Noctua D14 and the Corsair A70 performs neck to neck, yes albeit the Noctua is better at the end of the day if even by a whimper. It produces less noise and better thermals over all. But for Rs 3500 the A70 is a brilliant buy too as we all know how hard it is to find a D14 and then you have to have a proper wide case which should be atleast 8/9 inch wide (without a 200x200x30mm sidefan), to fit it in comfortably.

The Incinerator's config is very nice but may be you can get 2TB black for 10000 INR.

Green's are sort of considered not up to mark.....

He is already getting a robust SSD for OS so for storing data a 2TB Green is ok or a Toshiba DT01ACA200 (Rs 6000 or less) is best. that Toshiba is mighty impressive. (read this Toshiba DT01ACA200 Review)

also a better PSU something with 1050W
IMO,He will never require a 1000 watter here. A 1000 watt PSU will be a mighty overkill for this config. Even with all the over clocking/Sli/fans and at full load he wont cross 650/680 watts. The TX 850 can actually do a little over 900 watts at full load:mrgreen:!!! So he is left with plenty of headroom. The TX 850 comfortably powers a GTX680 Sli rig with an overclocked 2600K rig. (Nvidia)For a system using two GeForce GTX 680 graphics cards in 2-way SLI mode NVIDIA specifies a minimum of a 750 Watt or greater power supply that has a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 53 Amps (The TX 850 has 70A) or greater and that has at least four 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.(Nvidia) So he is safe.

thank you for your reply.

i'm going with the 4 gb versions of the 670s as there are apparently some bottleneck issues while playing skyrim with mods on... i'm personally a huge fan of mods... so i do not want to take any chances there.

i was also eyeing the V gene. my only problem with the board is it has only two slots gap between the pci-e slots, i would like to give my master GPU a bit of breathing space... so i was like, nope i'm not getting that... but yeah, i'm confused again. that ROG tag... my precious!!!

i7 for gaming :/ dunno... others suggested it too... but it's like 6000 rs more, and more or less none improvement in the gaming department. at least at this point of time.

thanks again. but i've decided i'm going with an closed loop cooler only. cause i forgot to mention this, but my pc [or laptop at this point of time] runs for like 48-50 hours straight, so it's better to have the best cooling solution. and after this info, i'm getting H2O 920. it's fairly cheap too, like 5500 bucks.

yeah i completely agree with the hard disk choice. WD black shouldn't be used for storage purposes. respect :p

seams like you have a hands on experience about the psu. nothing can beat that. 850w is enough then. thanks again.

btw, does anyone own a zotak 670? it's 3k less than the asus one. but somehow i can't trust zotac.

Get an i5 3570k if the sole purpose is only gaming, also go for an atx mobo like the msi z77 mpower or the asus p8z77 v pro as you can sli even a triple slot card easily. If you are an extreme overclocker get a h100i,if not get the noctua air cooler. For the psu i would suggest you a seasonic x850.Btw which monitor are you getting?
