Buying advice needed :)

Hello guys, I am planning to buy two, yes two mobile devices, one for me, and one for my mother.

For my mother, as she is a housewife, and very rarely goes out of the house, I have decided the budget around 5-7k, as a phone in this category will be more than enough for her needs :D She doesn't really need wifi, touchscreen, front camera and extra features. What she does need is a good rear facing camera, standard music options, and the phone should look good.

Need to buy Mom's phone before 31st July as it's her birthday on that day, so please advise first on mom's phone, then on mine

For myself, I am going for Samsung Galaxy SIII, as it's the most powerful Android device ever made. If there is any other better option (not iPhone, read better) than the SIII, then please enlighten me. No budget restrictions at all. I will be buying the phone before 15th August

The confusion which made me come here is whether should I buy an SII or an SIII. Is there a significant increase in performance? Will it really count as an upgrade? I am currently having a Nokia 1600 (lol phone, with talking clock f**k yeah, does SIII have it? :p )

Here are some possible options I thought of -

>Samsung Galaxy SII + Micromax Funbook (For multimedia needs at home, and good phone for outside)

>Samsung Galaxy Note (for both multimedia and good phone features, but heard it slows down after some time).

>Samsung Galaxy SIII (For this I have to sacrifice my Casio Edifice EF-558SG :( But I think it's better than the above, am I right? )

P.S - Don't mock me for buying a low end phone for my mom, she doesn't need any phone, I am just gifting her one, that IF she needs to go outside, she can take it with her as she doesn't have any phone at the moment.

For your mom, Samsung primo.

Well for you at ~35k pricepoint, there are 2 more mobile that you maybe interested in: HTC One X and LG Optimus 4X HD. Yes S3 is the king of mobile currently but not by looks.

I would say Note is still overpriced. It should be priced <28k and not 30k+. And S2 is a good option but if you find the Samsung Galaxy S II I1900 and save over 10k.

I am perfectly good with the looks of SIII, as even I thought it was plasticky feeling, but when I used it today at Croma, it DID feel like a premium phone.

Samsung Primo was my first choice, but I was told that it's discontinued long ago and now a Dual Sim variant comes in the market. Does it really matter? Discontinued phones also get full service by service centres including replacement of any damaged parts with spare parts? If yes, I'll buy Primo from my local store, he's giving it for 5.2k.

I'll talk about my phone later this weekend.

+1 to Samsung Primo i.e. 5610, its really a good phone, can be easily grabbed from a local store near you for max 4.9k.
You mentioned that you are getting it for 5.2k, ask him to lower down the price.

And for you I would recommend to have a look it One X too, its really good.
Even I thought before S3 is ugly but I found to be not so bad, but One X is much better than that look wise specially in white color.
Not is good too, can be easily purchased for 30k or may be less,it is a very good phone and also quite durable, a friend of mine owns one and it falls every second day but trust it is working absolutely fine.
So the options you have got are One X,S3 and note.
Won't suggest you to buy S2.Never...

One X vs S3 is really upto you , neither would disappoint, at all .
Both have minor plusses and minuses infront of each other and it really boils down to you :)

I would have suggested the Note , its as powerful , the screen is unbeatable if you can live with the big size , and costs 5-7k less than the other models. Why is it overpriced ? :(

So it is Samsung Primo then, also guys reply to this query of mine -

Guys I was in the same dilemma between One X and S3. But S3 beats One X in many aspects like battery life, screen quality and benchmarks. Digit did a review on both phones this month and last month, and they confirmed that S3 blasts One X in almost all benchmarks. The only thing comes to look. I am OK with the looks of S3, and won't buy somewhat inferior phone just coz of looks.

S3 beats One X in terms of battery life and benchmarks yes but not screen. One X screen is significantly better than GS3's

Both battery life and benchmark scores are important to me.

Are there any other options I am missing out except One X and S3 at this price point or higher?

Samsung Primo is confirmed now, but please clear my doubt fast, will I get full service for it including spare parts if ever the need arises?

of course you'll find spare parts and finding genuine part is almost impossible. go ahead with Primo. there aren't many better non-touch mobiles out there.

Ok guys just came back from Croma, went out with mom. She liked HTC Explorer and Galaxy Y Duos. But she prefers Duos just because it looks kinda better than the smaller HTC Explorer. Which one should I prefer?

She doesn't need top notch performance. Good music, good camera and good looks is her concern. I am inclined towards Explorer because of it being a famous and a great performer. But she thinks Duos is better, what do you say?

So your mother choose "Android" :D.

Well, whatever you choose, buy something which "she likes", not what you like, since it's her birthday gift!
But do inform her of the specifications so that she can judge for herself! :)

Well, Vy0m bhai is right, I will get her what she likes, not what I like :) Will buy tomorrow.

As far as for my use, S3 seems like a great choice. I have confirmed it now, and will buy it next week probably. :D
