I want to burn mpeg files (vcd format) to a dvd. that is i want to make a vcd but utilise the larger space of a dvd to fit in more files. will a standalone dvd player play such a disk??[/code][/quote]

nope
not possible
dvds MEANS u use VOB
vcds MEANS u use MPG
u can use the mpg convert them to vob's and write them .... but not not as mpgs
tho since its an mpg it already has some loss and im sure its 2.1 channel ... so ull be able to fit in 2-3 movies anyways on dvd format
tho there are other methods to write 2-3 movies with 5.1 channel ... using ac3 codec to compress the audio ofcourse
thats how the multicompilations u see on the streets of mumbai are made

ps try this BBCODE FAQ ... i think ur having trouble using it

WEll Well well...man what you are trying is perfectly possible i have been doing exactly that stuff on my Philips DVP 320 Player since few months...What i do is this..
I just simply rename the dat file to file 1.dat or movie name .dat then 2.dat and so one...fit like 3 to 4 movies on single DVD...
Just that ...nother file needed...justthe dat file and when i play thatDvd in my DVD player the files list is shown in menue ..i simply select those and play it...Voia ...no need for other software ....NICE Question there ANYWAY..!!
